Teeing off on 10

I recently played a fund raiser, my boss drove us to 10th after first nine, the group in front was in the shop "getting a sandwich" and the boss quickly tee'd off. I thought it was "too quick" as the group in the shop was paying up and were soon out the door. Needless to say we had just hit the third drive and they asked "what's up!" Lucky me I was last to hit in the error. I felt bad the rest of the round, we also got a few cat calls and dirty looks.

 

I've gotten pissed leaving work early to get a quick round in and all of a sudden the school bus pulls up with the golf team (girls & boys) they drop them off at numerous tee boxes just off the road so it's a shot gun start, slows me up ya but really piss's me off.

Ok...so if I stop after the front nine and grab a bite to eat or something to drink, I am supposed to wait until sunset to tee off, because that is the next time when I will see the course with 'nobody behind me' from the 10th hole?

 

C'mon, let's use some logic here...the 10th hole (start of the back 9) was open, nobody ahead of this guy and his kids...and someone hadn't even finished the 9th by the time this guy and his kids had teed off. It is not like the guy walked to the 14th hole or something and just cut in, he started on the back nine at an opening in play. As long as he keeps a decent pace of play, he won't slow anyone down.

 

I suspect this is a peculiarity here in America, where everyone is in a rush and common courtesy and common sense are non-existant. I read golf stories and article all the time about golf in Europe where stopping to eat before the back nine seems somewhat common.

 

I've NEVER heard of ANYBODY stopping to sit down and eat at the turn, in my 29 years of golfing. That said, I agree that there should have been a reasonable discussion and courtesy given to resolve a pretty simple situation.

the only point of contention was the guys overreacting and yelling at the guy inf front of his kids. i am not trying to say i wouldnt be pissed becasue i would be, i just would come up to the group that jumped in on the 10th and be polite. if they refuse to let me play through, well, then you are allowed to yell in front of the kids.
