Liverpool/Merseyside area

Hi there. I am visiting Liverpool with a friend for a few days in July and am looking for a couple courses in the area. We will have a car and clubs, but we’d like to find decent, affordable (<£50) courses. We’ve been doing some research but there are so many and not too many reviews on them. Any input would be truly appreciated.

I really like the site, I've linked to below, as a gazetteer for looking at golfing options. Obviously a lot of the courses around Liverpool are some of the best around and are priced accordingly, they also have the knock on affect of bringing up the price of their neighbours. The links below are for the two counties around/including Liverpool. Personally, while I have not played it, I think Manchester GC looks to be awesome value. St. Annes Old Links GC will give you a true links experience, at just a bit north of 50 quid.

I played St. Annes old links many years ago and this will give you a propper links experience :-) == good value.

Also lot of good things about Fairhaven golf club / did not play myself.

This is a good site that I occasionally use for booking teetimes. There are reviews for most courses and you can filter courses by distances/cost etc.

 

I would've thought that you could only book when you arrive in this country though? It shouldn't be a problem though, you can normally book courses 24 hours in advance.

If it was me i would head down Cheshire/Chester way

And a hidden little gem Sutton Hall (but make sure the weather has been good)

If you're after a links style course, Fairhaven is also a good option, again very reasonable.

 

For more parkland courses in that bracket, i'd recommend Wilmslow, Stockport, Mottram Hall, Pleasington and Manchester (a bit more of a drive but worth it).

A little more expensive but Wallasey and Caldey are a couple of crackers. As said above St Annes is very nice

For Liverpool / Merseyside area courses (West Lancashire, Wallasey, Hillside, Southport & Ainsdale, for examples):

 

Turf conditions: Are the fairways firm or can you take a divot? I have two Lob wedges, one with 12-14 degrees of bounce and another that has 5 degrees. Trying to decide which one to bag.

 

Greens: Any advice as to green speeds? Are they typically fast, firm greens or on the slower side? Trying to pick either a light blade putter or a heavier mallet to bring with.

 

Weather in July?
