Is PlayAway program gone for good?  I can't seem to find it on Club Corp website.

Yes, their name has such negative connotation's that they needed a name change as Apollo the equity group that owns them is planning an IPO.

How have people found using this? Is it easy to book. How do you find out prices for courses that are listed as "preferred rate"

Blue is the top level, so you can play basically any of the clubcorp owned courses for a cart fee which isn't a bad deal there's some good ones out there.  Its generally easy to get a tee time for any day there isn't an event at the club you want to play but it likely wont be at your preferred time. 

 

Don't expect significant discounts on the preferred rate courses.
