Drills/aids to help build great rhythm?

I spent Friday and Saturday @ The Consellation Energy Senior Players Championship and the one thing I noticed about all the players I followed - They ALL have great rhythm. Jay Haas, Mark McNulty, Andy Bean, Ted Furgus, Curtis Strange.... Not a single one of them look like 'they go at the ball', yet they hit a mile and hit the vast majority of the fairway.

 

So my question is are there any drills to build rhythm into the golf swing. Also, are there any training aids that will help the process, or is just a matter of hitting thousands of balls and building the rhytm over time?

A couple of things that help me when I practice play include:

 

Hitting the ball with my feet close together. Nothing spectacular but just short, sharp, crisp wedge shots. Any attempt to get out of sequence or to power the ball will result in a loss of balance.

 

Also, I concentrate on using the big muscles (shoulders etc) to control the small muscles (arms, hands). In the past I've had a tendency to use my hands too much and get of of synch with the rest of my body.

whistle while you hit rangeballs. just a low single pitch whistle (not a tune) from address through impact. try to keep the same pitch and volume all the way through. plus, it's free! lol

 

you can also count a cadence to yourself. 1 on beginning the backswing, 2 at the top, 3 at impact. get a nice steady rhythm going.

Vijay counts 17 ,18 on the backswing and 19 on the downswing .He say 1 ,2 ,3 is to short . So its 17 going back ,18 to the top and 19 thru the ball in a nice smooth cadence. I tried it and it works for me.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to give Vijay's drill a try and see what happens. I'll also do some research on the swing tempo.

You could try one of the whippy clubs. I think they make the whole set know from driver to wedge. Whippy shaft that has to be swung correctly to hit the ball.

I got this out of GD and it was written by John Miller: He said when he was at the top of his game the club head speed was fastest after impact instead of before or at impact, Well I just put a tee about 4 innches in front of my ball and try to make that optimal speed it seems to work for ME!!
