9.8 handicap — AP2 vs AP3

AP3's sound loud but feel great. It is interesting to me how much the sound influences our perception of feel, probably like how smell influences taste! My analysis was that the spin issue is a red herring since the real question is which club spins more based on distance. For example, measuring spin on the clubs that go 150 yards instead of two 8 irons gives a much closer answer. Headed for Myrtle Beach at the end of next week so I will have some feedback on my new AP3's after that.

I am a 10.1 cap and I play a straight AP2 set the AP3 long irons just feel numb to me with no feel whatsoever

I would try the AP2. if you feel you need more forgiveness on the long irons, you can always find AP3 long irons on ebay or wherever.

Or give the 818 hybrids a try.

I agree with you on needing to compare clubs that go the same distance and not the number on the bottom of the club. I ended up with 6 through the 48 degree wedge because based off of distance gaps that is what blends into my hybrids. My old 6 iron (mizuno mp18 mmc) was a 175 carry club and spun around 5000rpm. My ap3 7 iron is a 177 yards and spins around 6k rpm. Low on spin for a 7 iron but not bad since its playing as my "6" iron. Being in Minnesota I've been hitting them on trackman a lot so I'm jonesing to get outside on some grass

AP2 = PW - 7 iron

AP3 = 6 -4 iron

I have no problem stopping AP3s on the green. Attached is the pitchmark and ball several inches adjacent on the green - about 180ish yards with a 6 iron. Maybe they have low spin for some, but these do not run out on me.

AP3's are super straight. I found them delightful to hit. Great launch feel and distance. I'd say between 5-10 yds longer than the AP2's. The offset didn't really bother me. Not noticeable to my eye.

Ap3 were def too clicky. Ap2 iron performed great for me but still felt clicky. Settled with ping i210 and couldn’t be happier.

Which one is more forgiving Ap3 or i210? Currently playing the 718 Ap1 and wanting to upgrade. Also is the ping awt shaft similar to the Nippon 880 amc shaft. That’s what I’m currently using in the ap1 and kind of wanting a shaft similar to that if I go with the I210.

Ap3 prob a little more forgiving just bigger iron head. The i210 is a great club. Has enough help and yet could still move the ball well with it. If you care about distance go with ap3. If you care about precision go with i210.

It's so important to get fit for your irons as shafts & heads will perform differently for different people

As an example I went for a fitting a couple of weeks ago and was expecting to move from 710 CBs to 718 AP2s for a bit of extra help however the AP2s didn't spin enough for me compared to the CBs so were actually a bit less forgiving in that sense.

I find them to be extremely spinny with the tour white. I hit a downwind downhill 8i 175 when I was playing last week (to give you an idea I usually carry 145-150 with 8) and it still stopped within 2 feet of the pitch mark. 5 and 6 iron stop dead after hitting without wind. I'm having to intentionally lower trajectory with these clubs which I've never had to do except when it's really windy. They fly higher and spin more than most other irons I've tried. Anyways they feel great and have decent forgiveness. They certainly won't hold your hand though. I was going to switch to 919 Forged but hit them back to back on sim today and there was no contest. AP2 was just as forgiving with higher flight, same distance and better control. The AP2 delivers. It does feel less forgiving than the 716 I was using despite increased MOI. I also find I spin them more which is strange.
