Rancho Mirage, CA to Oceanside, CA

I thought I had a tee time for Tuesday but it’s for Wednesday and Thursday and am wondering who knows the best way from Rancho to Oceanside for a day trip to the coast? Should I go over the mountain on 74 or go west on the 10 and then head south? I haven’t been there before and any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you!

I used to live in Oceanside. I've done both routes and there isn't a a big time difference. The interstate route is pretty straight forward. I-10 to I-15 south to 76 over to the coast. When I go out there to visit, my friends and I usually take that route out to the desert to play golf.

Thank you for the response. I thought using the interstate would be simpler. I just see going over the mountain on 74 is the shorter route but, it’s mostly 2 lanes going that way.

Probably works out the same time wise , going over the mountains is slow . Once you hit the 15 you can go South to the 76 then that will cut across straight to Oceanside .

the only reason why it may be better to head over the mountains is if its at a time of day when traffic is going to be bad at certain points on the freeway. realistically it wouldn't make too much of a time difference though

We took the interstate there and came back over the mountain on the return trip. That’s some crazy driving on the mountain roads. Wednesday is Eagle Falls, Thursday is Escena. Thanks guys!
