St Augustine golf

Trying to decide what course I should play. I played King and Bear and South Hampton and loved both of those courses. Trying to choose between Royal St Augustine, Slammer and Squire and St. John’s Golf and Country Club . Any thoughts?

I have not lived there in 7 years (But 20 yrs before that) and Royal St. Augustine is one of the worst layouts I have ever played. St. Johns always in great shape and I always liked the layout at Cimarrone. You can never go wrong with World Golf Village courses.

Royal st Augustine is pretty cheap. It was like 30 bucks to play this past Memorial Day.

 

It was in good shape. Nothing outstanding about it. We used it as our warm up round before we played The Slammer and Squire. Slammer and Squire was fine. Better conditions. But, I don’t remember one single hole from the course. It was not a memorable track—for me.

 

I much preferred the King and the Bear. Better layout. Better conditions.

The wife and I have vacationed in St. Augustine for many years. St. John’s was solid but it’s been several years since I played it. Royal STA is total target golf and short. Very few drivers needed. It’s cheap but not my type of golf. Can’t go wrong with world golf village or TPC Sawgrass. The Stadium Course is expensive but Dyes Valley is a better value. That said we just got back from the Tampa area and if you have the time and don’t mind driving I would highly recommend World Woods or Streamsong.

St Johns greens are ridiculously fast right now. I call it “touching” instead of “putting”.

Played Slammer and Squire several times...it's not a bad course, but as another poster put it, it's not really course, but a nice one to play.

Nothing wrong with the TPC but I would take a drive 30 mins south and play Ocean Hammock...a Nicklaus track with about 6 holes on the Atlantic.

wgv is always great. i love both the slammer and king and bear. i recommend both
