If you're a private club member and can get your pro to set up a reciprocation round, I'd play Montreux, if not, I'd agree with Grizzly Ranch, about 1 hour out of Reno ($99 for Reno locals) If money is no object Tahoe would be the way to go. I haven't played played Coyote Moon but I've never heard it described as awful! Please explain this Buckeyer, I'm curious!

If it's during the week I might be able to join you, send me a PM if you want company. If you don't want to travel PM me and I can make other suggestions.

Worth/value is really an individual thing. For me, $350 is approaching bucket list range... But let's analyze... I assume $350 is the unaccompanied rate, which is typically going to be a spendy proposition. But if $350 includes caddie, then let's say the round is $250. Still expensive, but... you still have to consider it's unaccompanied. Is that for a single round? Or a day rate?

As far as the course, I played it in 2010. I found it to be heads above the other courses I played in the area. It is a superb layout, brilliant routing, a great mix of hole lengths and styles and sited in a wonderful setting (very similar to the Payson area, with pine trees etc.). It has all the elements you would expect from Bill Coore, for me, a style that is attractive and enjoyable but I acknowledge that some may not agree. I noticed that in another thread, you did not list C&C in your top 10 favorite designers. This could be an indicator that you might not find the $350 "worth" it.

Although I rode on my visit, it seems very walkable, moreso if you have a caddie to schlep your clubs. There is some elevation changes, but not too severe.

Thanks TJ. I’m playing grizzly ranch Sunday and have the opportunity to play clear creek on Monday. In Doak’s book they give it a 6 & an 8. it’s $225 + $100 mandatory caddie + tip. Yes, I like coore Crenshaw designs but I prefer Hanse, Doak, Mackenzie & weiskopf. Hanse’s greens at rustic canyon are 100% interesting then cc’s green at we ko pa imho. With the elevation I’d probably take a cart but try to walk a lot. Cc courses I enjoyed: kapalua, we ko pa, talking stick north, Bandon trails. Cc courses I wouldn’t rush to play again: streamsong-red, talking stick south)

Edgewood Tahoe is $300 and Fazio. I tend to dislike Fazio courses with world woods being an exception.

Both Old Greenwood and Gray's Crossing in Truckee are fun, challenging tracks. I'll also second Grizzly Ranch - beautiful, usually not too busy. Whitehawk Ranch is also up that way, just a bit farther from Reno. Since you're staying in Sparks, if you want to stay more local, both courses at the Resort at Red Hawk are fun to play. Not crazy challenging, but relatively inexpensive and quite local to where you'll be.

Clear Creek is amazing! I could stay at the practice facility for hours (not designed by Coore & Crenshaw) I played back in 09 when it was trying to attract members for a 2 day tourney, it definitely deserves it's #2 ranking in the state behind Shadow Creek in LV. If you can get on, play it, you won't be disappointed!
