Reminds me of a round many years ago where a marshal had groups hitting into each other. Nowadays I'd push back at such a marshal. A 4-hour pace is great. Sometimes these work-for-free-golf guys don't really have a handle on things. So-be-it...

Me and my wife complete a round on our home course in around 3:10 If we’re not held up by groups in front. And we do that without trying to play fast. We play from different tees, which doesn’t help, but my wife is lightening fast at everything - and I am very good at getting ready before it’s my time. I can’t explain how energising it is to play a round without waiting. And how exhausting it can be when the waiting becomes the main thing. If I have to wait 3-5 minutes on every tee and a couple on every approach I spend more time waiting than playing golf. And that isn’t so fun ... Obviously waiting on those in front is worse than waiting for playing partners who are excessively slow, it both drains energy.

 

They had a clock-shot tournament on the European tour last year and the scores were better than previous years on the same course.

Habits that eliminates time waste benefits all.

 

PS I remember John Daley and another guy teeing up first on Sunday in a pga tour event may years ago. They were out of it and completed their round in 2+ hours. They were fined for playing too fast. IMO they should have been given a bonus instead.
