The wind is really starting to howl. I wouldn't be surprised to see the cut move to +1. Drives into the wind are falling out of the sky.

Lydia, Bronte, and Sung Hyun all hit the middle of the green on the par 3 15th, and still managed to roll off the back. Wind is a good 20 to 25 mph from their backs.

This is normally 18. This is a tough for first timers and I've only played it once. Blind tee ball. You know the creeks there to the right but you can't see the landing area so it's a little intimidating. Lotsa balls hit left onto the hill on this one today, Argonne?

This is the first hole you get to when going under and inside the track. Natural to just stand there and take in the holes unique design and the pagoda in the background. Looks like there should be a moat surrounding the green. You gotta hit this green or it's almost an auto bogey because you can't see the hole when pitching up. Or, perhaps I should just speak for myself.

Sung Hyun contemplates a high lob over a large pine tree. She elected to punch under it,and wound up over the back of the green. She still managed par. Another wow.

Things gonna get busy on the weekend, so far 80 make the cut but the TV window is over at 4 both days. So that means it gotta end by 4 PM for coverage. We could have split tees starting at 4 AM lol

I saw more go into the creek than left. Surprised by that. They really should finish on this hole.

In Gee drove the ball well today. On many holes downwind she was the longest. Into the wind she got very little roll. I spoke to her coach about her driving earlier in the year, and he said she was getting too much spin on her driver wedge, as he called it. Very little roll. Seems like she's starting to get it under control.

I'm heading out to the gate, and Lydia drives by in a cart and gives me a wave and a smile. She was on the range hitting some balls after her round. She is dedicated, you gotta give her that.

13 hours at the course today, and over 36 holes walked. My feet are on fire. I'll play a round tomorrow morning, and then head back to the tournament for a few hours. 'Sorry for the huge photos. I gotta figure out how to down res them on the fly.

 

Tough conditions out there today. The players struggling to make the cut had their work cut out for them. Dye' s courses can be scored on, but they'll also kick you if you're out of position.

Fairways and Greens seem much firmer and faster than I remember and with the wind it made things really tough. Condition and score seemed much better the first 2 years of the event. Sad to see this one leave, I enjoy this course.

I thought the greens were holding pretty well. Downwind shots, or ones coming out of the rough were tough to hold, but that's no surprise. The course has a number of short holes, and the downwind holes were really playing short. Many players were hitting partial wedges into the greens.

 

The course is generally fan friendly. While it's technically not a "stadium" course, Pete put plenty of mounding that allows for some good vantage points. There are public grandstands at the par 3 15th, and the 18th, so decent views are possible. Even though the routing is changed for this event, the new 1st and 10th are a short walk from the entrance, and a shuttle is also provided. It's also one of only a few courses that have parking right at the course. You walk less than 100 yds, and you're at the entrance gate. Yeah, it's a shame to see the Midwest lose another event.

 

This may be my last tournament for a while. I'm retiring in November, and hitting the road next year. I hope my travels intersect with a tournament, but it's unlikely.

Earlier this year, I thought the LPGA schedule was kind of cool where people can get some time off through the season without missing tournaments (there could still be some tweaks with the long-stretch in the middle and the Evian/Women's British Open back-to-back thing). Some of the players are probably tired at this point, but maybe they hate the break in routine even more, and would rather have 2-3 months off at the end of the year? The turn-out this week was decent but the geographical logistics of Europe/UK-Canada-Portland-time off-Indy/TX seems like a train wreck. I can see why JYK said I'll see you in FL for the awards presentation and has otherwise packed it in (for North America at least). I'm actually a bit surprised more of the players that are not near Money List cutoffs didn't do the same.

I think next season won't be much better, the 2 week Olympic break made the season schedule messy 4 years ago and it will probably be that way again. I agree finding a way to end the season by the end of October would be ideal, give the girls a couple months off.
