Trouble if wind is Right to Left.  I aim at the right bunker and hope for the best.  Not playing that hole from the tips or anywhere near the tips.  4 iron is just asking for trouble.

# 17, I've made birdie there.  Also made Double.  I think the smart play is to lay up to about 90 yards and hit a solid wedge.  Have to rely on the yardage and extrapolate for the elevation.

 

#18 Learned the hard way that the smart play is a 4 or 5 iron off the tee.  Just too much trouble on the right.  Leaves you with an elevated blind shot like #17, but if you can trust your yardage, it's not that hard.  Any 4 Hcp that can beat a LPGA player can make short work of that shot.  😬 🫣

Hi David.  Still not sure although holding out hope.  Doubtful that my brother and his wife would make the trip regardless as they're expecting their first grandchild late January or early February.

 

I'll be 70 in March and a return to Palm Springs would make for a great birthday celebration.

 

Have a short list of accommodations at the ready just in case!

 

We would enjoy getting together again and I'll be sure to keep you posted.

I’ve just booked our winter vacation the week of February 26th through March 4th. I book it for that week every year. Now I have to figure out where I’m playing while I’m there. We always stay at the Desert Oasis (Welk Resort) every year. Nice but not overly fancy.

Stayed there for a week in Sept 2013, it was nice place at the time, it was off season, temps 107 - 110 F & not all that busy. I recall we walked to the Cathedral Canyon G&CC there were 4 carts parked out front of the pro-shop, don't believe there was many out golfing at 11:30, green fee's were $1.00 hole including cart, decided to go back to the pool.  Our favorite restaurant was and still is the Italian place ... Trilussa 68-718 E Palm Canyon Drive, great food and excellent service, put it on your list, it's just around the corner from Welks. I'm sure you have a number of favorite tracks to go back & play, if you try someplace different than what's posted above, let us know.  What I'm seeing so far is green fee's have gone up again over last year, will be looking for a lot of those next day hot deals.

The first year we stayed there we played Cathedral Canyon. That was the last time we played it. I didn’t think it was worth playing ever again. There are so many other great courses in the valley. We will give Trilussa’s a try. Thank you!

Followed your thread a bunch when I was down in Cathedral City in March! Always great to get a look at how courses are looking. Appreciate the effort and updates!

 

I’m heading down in a couple weeks for a month stay, and will also be looking for those next day hot deals. Prices are on the rise again for sure, especially as a Canadian.

Home is Central Alberta were it's freezing cold and snowing, our lake currently has 15" solid ice & guys are driving on with their 3/4 ton dullys, ice fishin.

 

The Volunteer Committee for the American Express PGA Tourney, Jan 16-22, in La Quinta sent out my assignments today, I feel blessed to have been chosen for the following positions in the Practice Area at the Stadium course.

 

I wasn’t sure what Scoring Area involved on the Friday, my Team Director advised I will be part of the Security Detail working at the scoring trailer on the Stadium course at the putting green and back of the clubhouse for the Nicklaus course.  We are to provide extra security for the players as they finish and go into their appropriate venue.  He said, this is actually a great gig! You see the players up close and they are more relaxed because their day of golf is over. After my shift on Sunday, I get to watch the last group come in with my Mrs who gets a free pass & we get to sit in the grandstands overlooking the 18^th green. For volunteering, I also will be entitled to a 50% discount on round of golf at the Stadium course, (note to self pack an extra sleeve of balls.) 

 

Looking forward to the opportunity.

We don't have any plans as of yet but still holding out hope!

 

I had cataract surgery about a year ago and since then night driving has been a bit of a challenge due to the glare and halos that developed afterwards.

 

My brother and his wife are expecting their first grandchild in January and won't be coming so we're trying to find another couple to come join us both to share expenses and to handle the night driving.

 

If that doesn't work out we might have to settle for visiting friends in Phoenix for our winter golf escape.  Have never done the Arizona deal before and would certainly prefer Palm Springs but I guess we'll see how it all shakes out.

@ZipinZ could you assist me again? Im looking at the google map of tahquitz creek course. Is the resort course you mentioned, the one north and runs along the creek almost the entire course and the legends course the one the runs through the neighborhood?

I've read good things about Terra Lago (esp North course), including in this thread.  But then I've read some bad things--not so much about the course--but about the way it's run?  No rakes, unreasonable starter, place is kind of a mess, etc.  Anyone been there recently who can opine?

It's a good course.  There are a couple of weak/weird holes on the back 9, but still a good course.  It's not a posh place (trailer for proshop and food), but the money is spent on the course.  I liked playing there.

Jan 6th, 1630 miles/2620 km's later we arrived yesterday at our rental in Cat City, need to get organized and get some WD40 & range time in. 

 

Here for 3.5 months, view of the 9th hole on Lagos course, love the green grass & Palm Trees.
