Paul .... she was on the edge of the couch cheering for K.C. all the way.

Feb 13th ... the wife had stuff to do & took the vehicle, I played the local Desert Princess course today it's 27 holes. Checked in & went back to the condo to pick up my clubs then off to the range before my 1:15 pm TT for $65.00 finished at 5:10 pm. Played the "Vistas" 9 the layout has three holes inside the property & six holes out on the wash area, it was boring, lucky it wasn't windy would of been a disaster. The "Lagos" 9 is within the property and much more challenging with water on six holes. My preference is "Lagos 9" then the "Ceilo 9", just stay out of the water, lost 2 balls.

Quick trip report for Feb 9-12:

Feb 9:  Flight to touch down at 12:20pm, with a tee time booked at Escena for 1:30pm.  Palm Springs airport just chaos inside the luggage pickup/car rental area.  Many flights seem to be arriving at the same time. Not sure if this is the norm nowadays, or just due to the SuperBowl weekend.  Escena was great as usual, 1:35pm tee off - 5:30pm finish , with dark on the 18th hole, lucky to squeeze in all holes.  Top 2 x pics

Feb 10: Classic Club .. they had an NCAA match play thing going on there before us in the morning, so course was in great shape. Greens super fast, and all rough around bunkers all shaved down, so it was playing pretty hard that day. Or we might just not be as good as NCAA players?? lol

Feb 11: Eagle Falls .. tee boxes, and some spots on the green not as pristine as usual .. but course was in still excellent shape, and has to be the best value in the valley for $125. Could play Eagle Falls each as one of the rounds each trip no problem.

Feb 12: Shadow Hills (south course).  This one is in Indio and doesn't get much chatter here, but is also a great mid-tier course. Lots of bunkers as the defence on this course .. bottom 2 x pics

Bonus pic of a Palm springs treat i've heard about but never tried before .. pretty tasty 🙂

bb123 .... tks for the report, I've heard the A/P has been super busy these days, must be all the snowbirds, I imagine school break will be even more fun. I agree Eagle Falls is a must play, last year the green fee's were $90. noticed they went up to $125. this year, like most other courses, golf is getting expensive out here. Never played Shadow Hills (south), like the pic's will have to investigate. You had great weather, today is a bit crazy with the wind. Cheers .... D.

Feb 14th ..... Happy V-Day, it's raining here currently but nothing like the flashback to Feb 14, 2019, were we got almost 4" or 100 mm of rain in 48 hrs. Cimarron G&CC - Boulder course was approx. 60% destroyed. Cathedral Canyons G&CC, Tahquitz and Indian Canyons South also suffered some damage.

One of the craziest weather events I've witnessed in my almost seventy years and having spent all of them in northeast Kansas I've seen some pretty crazy weather events.

Cost us the last two days of golf on that trip.

First time I ever realized that houses in Palm Springs don't have gutters and most of the streets don't have storm sewers!

Its my first time down to the Palm Springs area. Our air bnb is central to all the courses we have picked for this trip. What’s the Uber situation like in the area? It is looking like it actually might be more of a savings skipping the rental car and just using uber everywhere we plan on going. I already have a list going of courses to play next time we go down if we enjoy the first trip. Can’t wait.

you'll be able to get ubers/lyfts but don't expect them to be available immediately - you may have to wait 10-20 min for one but they are operating in and around PS - depends on where you are staying though. more closer to dwtn PS than in Rancho Mirage or La Quinta

The whole PS area is quite spread out.  You might be located close to golf courses, but you are going to shop and eat.  You can easily go 10-15 miles just to go to a restaurant or to see an attraction.  A rental car might be a little more expensive, but way more convenient and dependable.  On days I didn't golf, we could easily go for breakfast, then shop, then back to room, then out to an attraction, back to the room, out to a restaurant and back to the room.  An Uber bill will start to add up quick.

Was able to get into a free 1 hour custom fitting slot today with Ping at the Desert Willow Academy of Golf.  It was a 1-on-1 session with a very knowledgeable fitting specialist that included Trackman to validate my data. My 718 AP-2's may be kicked out of the bag, I got to try a number of head/shaft combo's, the Ping i230's and the G430's irons with Recoil 780's F4 Stiff out performed my current gamers. Waiting for Ping to send me my Trackman summary data and will have to make a difficult decision, sure was a positive experience. I think I even surprised the guys how well these irons performed for me. A few pic's .... enjoy.

Heading down in a couple weeks and buddy is telling me that Silver Rock is a mess / under construction... basically that it's not worth it at the moment. Anyone down there able to speak to the validity of this?

So far on the docket is:

Course by the rental but can't remember the name lol

Silver Rock

Stadium

Celebrity

Fire Cliff

Rams Hill TBD

Have a few free days that will be filled with golf I am sure... just haven't booked yet.

Haven't been there in a while, but I'm sure the hotel/resort complex to East and North of the course is under construction by now.  They revamped the course a number of years ago to accommodate this and IMO, they screwed up the course.  I think you could find better venues in any case.  Eagle Falls is a better choice.  Or Shadow Ridge.

Haven't played it while I'm here. After the changes they made to accommodate the new club house & hotel, it's no longer a favorite.  When driving home from the AMEX Tourney in January, I could see the place is under major construction. I looked at the Google reviews, there are more positive than negative. Here's a few from people who played it in the past couple of months, that weren't impressed with the const.  For the price they charge, I would go someplace else.

D.

Google Reviews:

Course is well-maintained. Even though there is a lot of construction going around the golf course it did not affect play at all. I can’t wait to see the completion of the clubhouse, restaurant and homes that are being built.

Course was great. Scenery outstanding. Would give 5 stars but the construction took that away.

There is so much construction, fencing lining the fairways, and equipment, taking away from the great views you’d expect for the price you pay. The greens and fairways are very well taken care of. If it wasn’t for the construction this would easily be 4/5.

First, let me say the course was in pretty good condition after overseeing and being closed. I had no issues with the course. My issues are with the pace of play, lack of Marshalls keeping pace of play, and paying what I believe is full price for a course in the middle of a construction zone. Unacceptable to do this and I would recommend to skip for a year or two until the resort is finished. No way I would have done this if I knew what was going on there. But again the course was nice, no complaints. But if you don't mind playing golf in a Walmart with noise and construction dirt and traffic, go for it. I will pass.

I got the G410's right after they came out with the 780 ES Recoils.  I hit 'em fine but didn't really care for the feel - kinda hard and clicky to me so I went back to the i210's (which also had the 780 shaft).

Also got the i59's with the 780 and really liked them - they are one great feeling iron but when the i230 came out I couldn't resist but got the new Recoil Dart 105 instead.

I honestly think it's the best iron and shaft combination that I've ever played.  The feel of the shaft is different than the 780 but the difference is hard to describe.

Maybe more one piece or solid?

All I know is that they just wanna go straight.  I've got probably fourteen or fifteen rounds in with them and have yet to hit anything wild in the way hooks or blocks or anything else and the distance is crazy consistent.

Just high long and straight which is hardly ever bad.

I thought the i210 was the best iron ever but not anymore.

I know you love those Titleist's and they're a damn fine iron but this i230 deal is really, really good.

Oh - and don't sleep on the U wedge. The first set matching gap wedge that I've ever played and it beat out my Glide 4.0 which is saying something.

Can't wait to hear what you decide!

Feb 20th ... happy President Day to our American friends, enjoy your day.

Forecast is 77F with no wind, golfing today before the big storm arrives, it sure has been cooler here this year, fortunately we have an electric fireplace in our rental. The TV said damaging winds & perhaps 4 days of rain & snow in mtn's is on it's way, something that we normally don't see.

Paul .... Ping still haven't sent me my Trackman numbers, I was hoping to get them on Friday, need to give them a poke today. I really liked the i230's but they said my numbers were much better with the G430's, that's why the difficult decision.

Anyone planning on arriving this week bring some rain gear.

Bonneville  ... I enjoyed the read, tks for taking the time to provide some excellent feedback, I'm sure others will also appreciate it. I'll update the course index with the info provided. Haven't played Terra Lago North for a few years now, pleased to read it's improved, I was told their south track still has issues. Some excellent pic. too.

Cheers

Man what is up with the weather out there?  Don't get me wrong, I'd still rather be there than here but it woulda been pretty disappointing to have been there the last couple of weeks compared to what we have become accustomed to.

Heck, we've been over 60 most days around here and have been playing a lot of golf.

Nasty front coming through tomorrow night but back to 60 by the weekend.

I miss Palm Springs something awful but don't feel quite as bad considering the weather patterns as of late.

That woulda been a lot of money spent to be cold and wet......

Hope it gets pointed back in the right direction for you and soon.

A few pic's .... enjoy.

Does Ping have a full time fitting setup at this location or was this just a Ping traveling van stop? I've stayed next door at the Desert Willow many times, may have to check it out next time I'm there.

I contacted Ping Customer Support and they sent me the following, I called the Desert Willow spoke to Jason he was able to squeeze me in for a fitting. Best bet is to contact Ping and get their Fall Fitting Course schedule and if your planning a trip to Palm Springs Desert Willow, try to book a time slot. I included contact info below.

Feb 23 .... Rain day, cold front came in last night & rain started this am, based on the next few days the wash area's will be flooded with road closures once again. I booked Escena for Monday, hope this system passes quickly but more in forecast next week. Took a few pic's from our Desert Princess condo property, can hardly see the San Jacinto Mtn's and the wind Mill Farm to the west.  Don't need any sunscreen for the McCormick's Classic Car Auction tomorrow.

Feb 24th ... went down town to Pinocchio's on E Tahquitz Canyon Way enjoyed their bottomless Mimosa's with breakfast then off to the McCormicks Classic car auction downtown Palm Springs. There was no 1970 Zip-in-Z's & not as many nice vehicles on the lot as previous years, I included a few pic's of the one's that caught my eye. More rain & even snow in forecast for Saturday ....
