Best 4- or 5-way bag with legs for push cart and riding (not carrying)

Recommended Posts

I've searched for a while in this forum and can't really find a thread on-topic here. If I want a NON-14-way bag, and I'm less sensitive to weight (because I'll use a push-cart when walking), what's the ideal bag? Oh, and I'd like legs for the range and other situations. (Minimal grip tangle is much desired...which I assume just translates to "bigger" + full-length dividers.)

Titleist Hybrid 5? Sun Mountain 5.5? Any others?

Thanks!

Anything with legs isn't going to be "ideal" for a push cart. I have a Sun Mountain 5.5LS that's a 4 way and it does work in my push cart, but it's kind of clunky and doesn't sit in the cart very cleanly, I often have to adjust it a bunch of times. The only other bag by Sun Mountain that's not a 14 way and works well in a push or ride cart is the Tour Series. As for other brands, I'm not really sure... I'm pretty loyal to SM. I'd check out the websites of various OEMs... Vessel, Ping, TM, Cally, Titleist, BagBoy, Ogio, etc.

Depending on your push cart, the stand bag will be hit or miss. My bag is a 2019 SunMountain 4.5LS. I got my Rovic RV1S pusher earlier this year and was really worried about the golf bag moving all over the place on it with the upper leg attachments sticking out from the bag. Turns out it seems Rovic built this pusher specifically for my bag. The upper leg attachments on the SM fit PERFECTLY in the upper saddle of the Rovic, "locking" the bag in place and preventing any twisting. In 10-12 rounds so far (lost count) I have had zero issues with the bag moving around on the cart.

I have the C-130 14-way cart and Love it, works well on my clicgear 3.5.  Just pulled trigger on Ping Hoofer Tour for the stand and smaller overall size without sacrificing too much storage.  I mostly ride, but will see how it does on the clicgear.  Only downside for me is I covet the 14-way whereas you seem to detest it.  If the Hoofer Tour was offered in a 14-way top it may well be the ultimate bag for me.

Might be worth while for you to check out the Hoofer Tour since it's a 5-way?  I went back and forth between C-130S 14 and this, but reviews seem to indicate craftsmanship/materials on the Ping might be superior so went that way.

i have a c130s on the way now...i hate 14 way bags but love a putter well and i can't find any other carry bag with that option.

A 5 way c130s or even a 5 way Sync would be perfect.

Oh interesting. Mizuno!  That model looks brand new (not even available yet?). How does it compare to this model?

It was available for pre order, which I did.  I got an email the other day from Mizuno that my bag was in stock an ready to ship, even though it wasn't supposed to be in stock until November.

I broke down and ordered the SM C-130 5-way.

We’ll see how it does at my local (non-grass) range that doesn’t have the little bag stands. hopefully the bag is balanced enough when loaded to stay upright on the concrete….   I did notice the other night there that a few people had cart bags standing upright….

Hey @islesmb, has your bag come in? Got time to share a quick review? I was just looking at this -- the new version's layout seems pretty perfect to me, so just curious.

i would jump on the c130 5 way in a heartbeat but that plastic ring all the way around the top kills it for me.

when i walk i put my wedges in the section closest to my push cart so that ring would keep them from going to the bottom of the bag.

my perfect bag would be a 5 way Sync.

Funny I got a notification in this thread. I was told January when I emailed Mizuno a couple of weeks ago, but it actually came in yesterday.  I'm going to the range at lunch, so I'll try and post a couple of pics and also check the putter well for @texasdave.  I like the straps on my Hoofer better I think since I only put it on my shoulder to take it to my truck, but the 6 way top is just perfect.

Thanks, that looks pretty fantastic. In terms of build quality, how's it compare to your Hoofer? And weight-wise, are they around the same ballpark?

Just based on looking at pictures online, they seem to have gotten the pockets exactly right on this one, for what I'm looking for at least. Any problems or surprises you've run into, though?

Also, a random specific question -- the straps didn't seem too close together when wearing both of them, did they? That's my biggest complaint about Vessel bags and why I'm looking to ditch my Player III; I'm a bigger and broad-shouldered dude and it's hard to get on and off. Pings, Titleists and Sun Mountains work just fine for me.

The apparel pocket has plenty of room, club tangle shouldn't be much of an issue.  It carried more comfortably than a vessel II I used to own, not as comfortable as the hoofer but I mostly ride living in Myrtle Beach.  There is a cart strap pass through as well.  The valuables pocket is a little small but manageable. Overall it seems well built and roomy.

It turns out this thing is very stable and balanced. Very sturdy, little nudges in any direction don’t come close to knocking it over.  No worries whatsoever at the range tonight. Happy about that.

I live where what used to be Belle Terre so I play mostly central and at Barefoot quite a bit.

Ok cool I remember old Belle Terre in fact played some there--- I am a Member at Indigo Creek so I play there mostly now. Was a member at Indian Wells for 18 years and you know what happened there.

Since you mentioned Belle Terre I just looked at the collection hanging on the wall and I have a bag tag from there. A few years back I played with several informal groups and played all over the Strand--- finally found me a good home at Indigo--- Not the most glitzy course in the area but a fun course and good people run and own it and there are some great members there too

Belle Terre had a great layout greens were always hit or miss as far as condition went.

Agree it was a good layout and I enjoyed playing it the few times I did so.
