Multiple Page Selection Missing

I've noticed that now when browsing a forum, if a topic has multiple pages, there is no way to select which page anymore or indicate that there are multiple pages for that topic. I've tried this on Windows 7 with MS Edge Chromium and iPadOS with Safari.

Is this expected behavior and anyway to revert? It's a horrible change.

Some boards have the pages (but then only a few of them) and some don't.

For those that DO, they generally have pages 1, 2, & 3 and then the LAST page (whatever number that might be).

But what's the big deal ? Click on the title, which takes you to your first unread post in that thread.

From there you have, at both the top and the bottom, all the page numbers you need.

I understand some boards have pages but my OP is referring to topics (threads). Once in a board, individual topics no longer have pages to indicate how many pages to that thread there are. If a topic has multiple pages, I sometimes will jump midway through them. Up until a few days ago, you could see it from the thread titles. Not anymore.

So are you referring then, to the below, AFTER clicking on a topic ? (iMAC desktop - Chrome browser)

As you can see, in the top level thread listing there is no indication of how many pages the thread has. Not until you go into the thread do you see how many pages. That didn’t used to be the case.

Your 2nd photo is of a forum TOPIC/THREAD. As you obviously know the pages are listed there.

Your 1st photo is of a FORUM LISTING, listing all the topics/threads in that forum. THAT is where, as I mentioned earlier, some boards show links to pages 1, 2, 3 plus whatever the LAST page is and you can click on them.

THIS board does not.

The previous WRX board ? I don't recall but there's no going back.

If you can make the case this is a really big issue I'm confident management will address it. Personally I don't see it.

@nsxguy There obviously has been a global change. Every board that I used to frequent regularly no longer show pages in the forum listing. As a matter of fact, I just checked a few other random boards that I don't frequent and they don't have the pages. What you keep failing to understand is that this was not the case (as mentioned by another poster) as this has changed recently. You may not see an issue with it but it's a feature that's on every forum I visit and also was on this and the old forum as well. My original post was to see if this was on purpose and why since it seems to be a global change.

"Changed recently" ? How recently ? The entire board changed just about a year ago. Has it changed since then ? I wouldn't know as I can't ever recall using those page links,,,,,,,,,,,,, so I wouldn't have noticed them missing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

But if they WERE on THIS board one would think management would have a record of the software engineers taking them away (and why(?)). But a "global change" ? As in ALL company's board software ? They ALL decided "no page numbers" ? Probly not.

There are 2 other boards I frequent. One has them, one doesn't. Neither one of them uses this board's packaged software ("Vanilla").

This is the ONLY board I've seen that uses the "Vanilla" software package. Whether there is a "toggle" to allow, or not allow, the page numbers to show in "Forum view", I have no idea.

Anyway, there is no use fighting over it. As mentioned earlier, if this is an important issue, make your case and I'm confident the board management will, at the very least, review it when they have the time. At the moment I expect they still have more important things to address.

i've noticed the recent change also. not seeing pages able to select as we were previously able to.

 

also, i'm now seeing the last page in a thread shows outside of its box and highlighted.

Regarding the last page, I've noticed that as well. Didn't see the number above and below though - that must be really new, like maybe today.

But I did notice the last page seemingly "blanked out",,,,,,,,, in an effort to highlight it no doubt. But highlighting a box with black lettering with black highlighting doesn't turn out too well LOL,,,,,,,, hence the numbers added above and below,,,,,,,,,,,,, in RED - wonder what that looks like when the last page is triple digits ? LOL

They're making little tweaks here and there on the fly like bolding the "Jump to New" and "Bookmark" (even though the star to "bookmark" is still there in the upper righthand corner).

Also, they've made some links RED, as in the link within a quoted post AND the quoted post's author (even though the link to the post doesn't seem to work LMAO)

Since the cutover about a year ago now, unlike the old board, I don't think we've been able to edit a post we "quote". There was some discussion on it but nothing ever happened. Guys have taken to cutting and pasting the section of the quote and then posting it right above their answer,,,,,,,,, as I've done above.

But no, as you've said, the red doesn't mean you've already clicked on it - it's just indicating it's a link. And yes,as I mentioned the link to the quoted post doesn't work. Not sure it ever really worked correctly all the time but it did work previously.

It's incredible that they're making these tiny, mostly insignificant tweaks while major issues, such as getting search to work properly, improve the editor (like adding UNDERLINING availability to the highlighting of text and adding COLOR) just sit in the hopper and are seemingly ignored.

Then again, we're not privy to their priorities or their plan ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
