Farewell Green Meadow Golf Club Hudson, NH

I heard the news today that Green Meadow Golf Club will be closing down Nov 1st, 2020. Obviously not the best golf courses in the world, but it is where i learned to play and have lots of great memories. Approx 35 years ago my Dad took me there for the first time to hit balls and putt. We also used to park off the side of the road before the bridge and look for balls in the woods along the par 4. I moved to California 5 years ago, but I come home every summer and always play the praire and the jungle with my Dad. I will make sure I play each course at least twice when I come home in July. A part of me will miss that crappy old school clubhouse lol.

Great place. I assume golf and ski will be staying open...at least I hope. Played in a spaghetti and meatball tournament there a few years ago and it was one the simplest, yet one of the most fun tournament I’ve played in. Freezing end of the season weather and a Italian buffet after. Loved it.

This is soooooooooooooooooooo disappointing!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the Jungle course for what it is. It's a near 7000yd public course that is very walkable. I have met soooooooooo many cool people at that course. I always have fun there.

Do we know why they are selling it? Was the offer just too good?

The jungle course definitely has some good holes especially par 3's imo. I have no idea why they are selling. A lot of good memories there.

This is disappointing! As kids payed one fee and could play all day, went around that place like it was a carousel. Still go back at least once a year, what a shame.

I tell people the Jungle course is a place that you are not like "OMG that was awesome" but you will have had fun and a good challenge.

Sucks. Since moving to Hudson I usually play the Jungle most Friday afternoons and might throw in another round here and there. It's one of the few courses I don't get tired of playing. There aren't too many other courses around here that have that quality.

They are selling to build a 2.7 million square foot storage and distribution center. Think Amazon.

I just joined the inner club and the Friday men’s league. I love playing there. The jungle is one of my favorite courses! Are any of you in the league?

I now live 3,000 miles away, but will definitely be there in July playing with my Dad. My Dad has been playing there since the dawn of time lol. As a matter of fact as a kid he would caddy for Phil Friel sometimes at Nashua C.C.

I've walked on there a bunch over the years and probably been paired with some other folks here. It is a shame to be losing it but they've been talking about doing something with that land for years. I guess they got tired of waiting for the casino that would never be.

I think you and I got paired up a couple years ago. I have a pending round at a private club but if it falls thru I am gonna head up on Sat.

What a bummer. I think this is gonna be an issue going forward for public courses post COVID.

Covid has nothing to do with Green Meadow closing. They had been talking about developing at least some of the land for years. I'm still disappointed they couldn't follow thru with the casino and really dressing up the Jungle. The bigger downside is what losing 36 holes in the southern NH area will do to pace at other local courses.

Well the good news is that due to all the legal fighting between the neighbors and the environmental concerns green meadow is still open. I am coming home this summer so I will at least get to play there a couple of more times with my Dad.

 

Its not Augusta National but its where I learned to play. Good memories.

My Dad died today and my first thought was how happy I was to get back home this past summer and play golf with him at Green Meadow. My Dad probably played there since they first opened and it is where I learned how to play. Back in the 80's he used to park on the side of the road and we would hunt for golf balls in the woods back when there was that straight par 4 that ran along the chain link fence (which is basically now the dog leg left 12th hole on the jungle). Golfers use to slice their drives over the fence and into the woods all the time. Lots of free balls. Good memories.

Sorry for your loss. You will always have those golf memories with your father.

That is a bummer!  You would think they could have just gotten rid of one course!

There has been several acquisition prospects, first a community development project, housing and small mall. Then Amazon tried for a warehouse, the community backlash was large against the amount of truck traffic. All of a sudden Target gets a warehouse and puts trucks on the streets of Hudson. I am not a farmer, but I know what BS is.

I played some high school matches there many years ago. 36 holes is a lot of tee times to lose. Where are the locals going to play now? Is there enough headroom at other local courses to handle them?

Short answer, no. It was a great spot and will be missed but, land is running out in New England. I'm glad I got to play here with my dad 2 - 3 years ago. It was a fun little spot.
