I agree, I was speaking of the Ben Hogan Collections DVD, That is where it is very pronounced. In the reading of Five Lessons He does speak as to what you are talking about. But thanks for the imput, my words previously may have confused people.

I agree Ken.

I always thought Tom Watson, and latterly Ian Woosnam were great models for the swing.

I once heard it said that Woosnam in his prime 'made hitting the ball look about as complicated as a man on a shingle beach swatting stones with his walking stick...'

Similar brisk rhythms, but so simple and repeatable.

I was always taught that the best way to swing a golf club is to keep things simple. Get the basics of grip, aim, stance and posture right and then make a natural motion, without 17 different swing thoughts.

I think there are basics to the golf swing that have to be adhered to, but a golf swing is largely personal and will always have an individual 'spin' to it.

The trick of a good teacher is to work with a person's natural motion and tempo and communicate their thoughts to the pupil in a way that they can understand and apply effectively.

I don't claim to be a great teacher, or particularly knowledgable about the swing, but I play reasonably well with pretty basic swing thoughts and a distinct lack of technology. I can generally fix most faults in my swing, and if I can't I ask someone I know for advice. Between us, we generally sort it out. If I start clamping plastic things under my arms and around the club, it puts me off. I know some people thrive on gadgets and devices, but I don't. I also don't want to be thinking of, and trying to correct, five things in the one swing...

The only technology I think is worth a jot is a video camera - as seeing what you're actually doing as opposed to 'feeling' can be very useful IMO.

I know the trend is to move towards minute analysis and biometrics etc. but there's a lot to be said for the old fashioned approach, to my mind.

that hip rotation takes away the timing, no hands at all. slinging the club with your hands would be way more inconsistent and require more timing.

You have no idea I hate the term slinging the club with my hands. I guarantee you that the speed you rotate and how much you rotate has to to require some timing Plus you have all that movement

Now I have had to teach people to release the club but personally I have always had little trouble squaring the club (mainly because I get it square at the top of my backswing.

I then swing the club past the ball and rotate through the swing. The difference is I am not using the rotation as the only squaring thing in my swing and I do not center the rotation around my hips.


Sling the club. Basically I try and get in the same positions on both sides of my swing. If you look at my avatar ( I was young and good looking when the pic was taken)

That follow through with the straight right arm and flexed left arm over my shoulder is and almost mirror image of my backswing.

All I do is complete the circle that is my swing

Well I would consider that a compliment but its a young KenK taken in Wisconsin in the mid seventys. Back in the good old days when I could Jack it.
