Irons reshaft: Epoxy curing angle

There's a chance I will reshaft my irons after this season is over.

In reading the Club Tech forum, I remember seeing comments about reshafted irons getting a bad lie angle during epoxy curing. It had something to do with how the clubs were leaned against the wall, or laid out on a table.

Can anyone tell me the specifics of this caution point?

Once you get everything separated and totally clean. Dry fit the shaft into hosel. Check for excess wobble with the fit. It may be necessary to use; a shim (when using a .355 tip shaft into a .370 hosel), glass shafting beads mixed into the epoxy, or quick center for tolerance that is to much for glass beads.

If the hosel is loose which happens on many .370 hosels (far more than with tapers from my experience), you can get lean which results in overly upright lie angles. Shims will definitely help, shaft beads not so much.

Options are

1. Shim them

2. Clamp the shafts and heads parallel while drying. Golfworks has some clamps that do the job

3. I set my clubs to dry on a homemade angled rack (if you can call it that) that allows them to sit with the head level in relation to it's lie angle ie tilted down, and the shaft basically sits against the wall with almost 0 lean.

HI I think this may be the post you are refering to, suggesting to lay the club flat on a table during epoxy cure.

The lie angle can only be effected IF the fit is bad between the tip and the hosel (too loose). IF there is enough wiggle room for the lie angle to change noticeably, then you should be using a shim of some kind. Or a collared ferrule might help a little as well.
