April Trip to Scotland

I hate to think we are coming up on this situation again, but after COVID cancelled my plans to Scotland last April and St Andrews allowing us to reschedule our tee time to 2021 it looks like things continue to progress to likely not being allowed to travel due to COVID again through the first half of next year.  Anyone hearing anything about if St Andrews and other courses is considering this possibility again into 2021?

What makes you think April 21 would be at risk?

pretty pessimistic take. (I also have mid 2021 trip lined up and have all my fingers crossed)

With cases spiking in the USA I just don’t see Scotland/GB lifting the travel ban anytime soon unless something turns around. I’d be happy to be wrong and would travel tomorrow if I could as I am willing to take whatever risk is there, but if big brother isn’t allowing us in I will get no say. Hope everything opens up by then though.

You don't have a travel ban to the UK right now, you just have to quarantine for 14 days on entry.

I am in the reverse situation, stuck in the USA due to not being allowed back into the USA from the UK; last day right now of that is December 31 2020. Assuming you have a US green card or a citizen then you don't have to worry about this.

What I am reading and understand is they are trying to find a way with Covid testing that you can almost fully freely travel between UK and USA, this won't be in time for me heading home for Christmas(Jackson Hole instead) but I would hope so April, we are hoping skiing in Switzerland the start of April then home for a month to Scotland.

Understood, but I, along with most who would go over from the USA would not be able to make the trip, quarantine for 2 weeks and then start their golf plans. Got to work. So as far as a golf trip goes it essentially is a travel ban.

Hopefully they have the testing protocol in place.

Good luck with your plans!

I’m in the same boat, moved my trip from April 2020 to May 2021. I’m hesitant to start booking again, I think there will be less forgiveness if we reserved in the midst of the pandemic. Flights alone, I feel lucky that United gave a refund. They’ve waived change fees on new flights but that would stil require going somewhere in 21.

i started a thread about a plan to quarantine for 2 weeks, already approved at work (and lukewarm approval at home) but getting cold feet. I can see 2 weeks locked in a tiny studio being misery. Possibly worth the gamble though of a month of Scotland (golf in the morning, work into the evenings). Add a likely 2 week quarantine upon returning home and not sure it’s worth it. Hard call to make.

There is no quarantine back to USA, it was scrapped months ago.

BA and American are trialing starting next week from Dallas, LA and New York - test 72 hours prior to departure, on arrival to Heathrow, and then 48 hours later. Right now the test still requires quarantine but it's a start to rid quarantine. Airlines, aircraft makers are going to go bust so something has to be done! BA had a 7.7 billion pound difference to this point last year.

There are state quarantines. Where I live I’d need to stay home for 2 weeks. Not the end of the world, but it would be an additional annoyance for my family if I couldn’t have company or help with errands outside the house for the first half of June.

but it’s 7 months away a lot can change, certainly. My main point was that I don’t see airlines, prepaid golf and lodging being as flexible or forgiving as they were this year, since we going into it eyes wide open.

Advantage of being in Texas.

Hmmm I just think something has to be done or a lot of companies are screwed, they will have to find a way to sort out everything.

forget where I was reading but I’m pretty sure you have to register as you clear customs with your lodging and they’re doing spot checks for those two weeks.

As far as I am aware, there has not been a spot check in Scotland carried out. The fine is cheaper in Scotland than England if you do get caught.
