$-Taper HT...anyone gaming it?

Haven’t seen many reviews on this shaft. According to Russ Ryden’s review it differs from the original $T. His graph shows the mid section going slightly softer and the tip being stiffer. The balance point shifts lower for a more traditional swing weight. One would think the the heavier tip would also alleviate the kbs bending issue.

This sounds like a Goldilocks kbs shaft for me! I’ve never gotten along with firm mids. On paper I could see this similar to a LZ with less loading zone.

Any insight? Thx

Been playing them for about 6 months now. They’re mid/mid for me. In fact, they perform almost identically to the $ Taper for me accept with the HT’s, I can actually feel the head throughout the swing. Loved the $ Taper performance but hated the fact that it felt super counter balanced to me and felt like I was just holding just a grip throughout the swing.

Any additional feedback on these? I just received a 6i shaft to test but haven't installed it yet. Seems like KBS released these to limited fanfare. I wonder how many people are actually gaming them?

Hi ScottHutch & biffstix:

I bought new Srixon Z585 irons a few months ago and got the KBS $-Taper HT 120 shafts installed in them at custom length (longer than standard due to my 6foot1 height).

Highly recommend them.

All I can say is that for me, these shafts feel great to swing with, and are a great product offering from KBS that they should really draw attention to a lot more, and even look at implementing as options in their other existing shaft lines.

A C-Taper, C-Taper Lite or $-Taper Lite in HT (heavy tip) versions, for example.

The KBS $-Taper HT shafts are presently only offered in 120g, 125g and 130g shaft weight options, and the best I might describe the $-Taper HT shaft would perhaps be that it's "the best of both worlds".

The lower balance point and heavier tip feels way better to me than the standard higher balanced $-Taper or $-Taper Lite, although I have personally always preferred heavier golf clubs and heftier swing weights generally.

Any mishit I make with my irons is my fault, not the shaft's fault, and I'd be happy to hit balls with these all day long.

At this point, I would also like to get one of these KBS $-Taper HT 120 shafts installed in my 2-iron.

Cheers!

Thanks for the review TonyK. I definitely agree with you on these shafts. So far I think they are great. I tested with the 6 iron for about 2 weeks and just dropped my whole set off to be changed to $taper HT 125g. I went with the S+ 125g version coming from C taper 120s. I previously played c taper 125g but they weren’t offered Taylormade. I think $ taper in 125 will be good due to the added feel they give

Good to hear you went all in on the $-Taper HT's, ScottHutch.

As of today, I ordered one of these $-Taper HT shafts direct from KBS so I can get it installed into my Srixon ZU85 2-iron, which is probably what I should have done from the very beginning, as the stock UST Mamiya Recoil shaft that came on it just feels terrible and never worked for me.

My entire set of clubs (except for the putter) from the driver on down to the wedges are Srixon Cleveland.
