Snell MTB-X - what is the closest comparator feel wise out of TP5 or TP5X?

Honestly neither MTB-X nor the MTB Black feel like TP5, both are definitely clickier (which I prefer). I don't have much experience with the current TP5x, as it had lost the putter feel that the 2018 version had. From my experience TP5 is "jumpier" around the green and off putter than MTB-X, with comparable spin. TP5 full shots feel better than MTB-X (IMO), but I like the ball flight of the MTB-X (and Black) better.

I compared some of the top balls last year vs MTB-x.  I prefer to focus mostly on putter feel as I saw no huge difference in approach shots / driving - they are all top tier balls.

FYI - I like a firmer feeling ball, I feel I get the ball to the hole easier with a firmer ball vs a softer ball

Firmest feel = Snell MTB-X

Tied with Prov1x (2019/2020 version) - Titleist maybe a slight hair softer

The newest Titleist Prov1x (2021 version) is a little softer so I would slot it here before the TM and Bridgestone.

Both the TM TP5x and the Bridgestone Tour Bx felt another hair softer off the putter to me.  If I had to choose my favorite feeling ball off the putter....Snell or Titleist in 1st place, TM in 2nd place, Bridgestone in 3rd place....but overall very close.

If I were trying to save money - the Snell MTB-x is a no brainer ball IMO.

I have been using Titleist Prov1x the last season though.  Cost was not a big factor for me.  I find the Titleist balls are just better all around.

For me I’ll be starting the year out with the MTBX. I played my last 2 rounds with it last year and really liked it.

I played the ‘17 TP5X until I ran out of stock and tested the ‘19 TP5X but I thought the ‘19 TP5X felt a little clicker and heavier. I also tried both TP5, but I just don’t care for a soft ball. I like the softest X ball, that’s my sweet spot. So the ‘17 TP5X was it for awhile for me but it didn’t have enough short game spin. I quick found the ‘19 TP5X was not as good feeling so moved on.

Tried the Prov1x (I keep going back to this ball to try everytime they put out a new year but nothing has changed), felt a little better to me than ‘19 TP5X but it spun too much off the irons. When the ‘20 BX came out that ball was really great, played it mostly all of 2020, it was the soft X ball I had been looking for and great spin around the greens. When I ran out of those I kept seeing reviews about MTBX so I picked up a couple sleeves to finish my season.

To me the MTBX is not as hard of a ball as ‘19 TP5X or Srixon XV (my friend plays it so I’ve tried it). I would still place it under ProV1x. Somewhere around the BX, but I’ve seen a higher flight with the MTBX and more distance off driver/fairway, about the same off irons and wedges. In the wind it’s been very good at cutting through the wind. Off the putter I would say the MTBX isn’t as lively as I would like, feels a little dead compared to the other brands I mentioned but I can get used to that with more time.

I have 2 dozen MTBX so that will give me about 1/2 to 3/4 of a season of testing. I will try the new ‘21 TP5X after the MTBX, sounds like they are a little softer again.

Any MTB X users able to compare the feel off the putter and wedges to Taylormade balls? Sound is important for me, and I find the TP5x too clicky and prefer the TP5. Curious which of these too is the best comparator for the MTB X ball. Thanks in advance!

From the early reviews it sounds like the new TP5x could be what you’re looking for. It’s softer than the previous version so should be pretty close.
