Lets talk about heavy ferrules

Apologies if this topic has been discussed and I failed to locate it with my poor search skills.  

 

So the first time I saw these I thought WTH would someone need these for? But, I was looking at my irons the other day I started thinking about how much more control I have with my irons when I choke down on them and that the only reason I don't play them as short as I would like is because I have complications getting to the D4-D5 swingweight range that I can time and feel my swing best at. When I see and feel the playing length I like most, the clubs always feel light and I very easily lose consistency. This is part of the reason I have ho'd so many irons and shaft sets, making a change is so much more in depth than just getting something new so really, without having the funds up front to be properly fitted I never should have moved on from the two great iron sets I have used in the first place.

 

Anyone else in the same boat of playing best with short but head-heavy irons? Anyone else use drastic efforts to play irons this way, or try the 13-14 gram stainless or brass ferrules?

 

Curious about if these things are are shaft crackers or just an unusual way to achieve uncommon results?

Just in case anyone else has a search for this, my experience has been that 14 grams caused the face to stay open more than expected and I hit solid baby fades all day with this. 

 

If Id had stiffer shafts for this purpose I think it would have worked out really well. Love that head-heavy feel.

I've never heard of these but seems like a pretty easy, if not more permanent, way to play with swing weight than lead tape. 

 

Not sure what stress that could cause on the shaft like you mentioned but definitely interesting.

 

I guess I'm not entirety sure why this would have any impact on face angle though?
