HZRDUS Smoke 5.5 regular flex?

I'm out on all the new lingo with shafts now days. I used to be a scratch golfer when there were only two flexes, Regular and Stiff!  

 

However, getting back into the game, yesterday I bought a used Taylor Made Sim Maxx driver with the HZRDUS Smoke 5.5 shaft.  It FELT STIFF!  However, upon further research, it looks like 5.5 is their REGULAR flex!  What's the deal here?  

 

I hit the ball 300 yards pretty regularly and normally go for Stiff to X-Stiff but this 5.5 "feels" stiff.  Is there something else going on here?

 

Have the standards for "stiff" vs "regular" changed over time?

Hi.    I find the 5.5 to play between regular and stiff.   I changed to 6.0 for more accuracy.    My swing speed mid 90s....

Thanks, I have no idea what my swing speed is.  15 years ago we went by distance and didn't have fancy speed trackers haha.  Might have to get one of those for fun.

Having a set of irons that have Rifle 5.5, they are a flex in between a DG R300 and a S300.  There's really no set standard among the major shaft manufacturers what is a Seniors, Regular, Stiff, and X-Stiff.  It is really up to you what feels good to you regardless of what's printed on the shaft. 

 

If you can feel confident with a set of clubs that are "Regular" or even a "Seniors" flex then so be it.

Also depends on the torque of the shaft.   Lower the number the shaft feels firmer

Looks like mine is the 4.0 torque.  60g

As a longtime Project X iron shaft player, I find a 5.5 Rifle steel in the irons is like a 6.0 in their metal wood graphites, maybe even a 6.5 depending on the shaft. A torque of 4.0 will likely make the shaft feel pretty good and some mistake that for ‘loose,’ but it may be playing true to flex. For me if the torque is really low (3.0 or lower) I’ll perceive the shaft as seeming overly stiff and am likely to overswing. There is value in more torque in terms of smoothing out your tempo IMO.

5.5 is their R rating. 6.0 would be stiff and so on.

the shaft you have is a good quality made for OEM shaft by HZRDUS.

measure the club length to see if yours is full size or was shortened. that would affect flex somewhat.

 

I have a similar product, HZRDUS Green.. 5.5, in an XR16.
