Open Clubface Downswing

Anyone have any good tips or fixes on getting rid of an open clubface on the downswing?  I have this and it causes me to stall and flip and I can't seem to figure out a way to get that out of my swing.  I am a 12 handicap and have pretty decent fundamentals but I am stuck with this flaw that I would like to get rid of.  Any advice on things that have worked for you all?  Thanks!

post a video of your swing fo and dtl

the club doesn't magically get open in the downswing ... there is a cause but no one is going to be able to fix unless we can see what's causing it

You also have to stop and think about what are you trying to do in YOUR golf swing (shot shape, traj, upright/flat, narrow/wide)

These aren't suppose to be swing thoughts but you should be aware of your intentions and tendencies in your swing

Your Tendency is that your face is 'too open' in the downswing causing you to flip the club during the impact motion ... Is there a Intentions that might be causing this?

hope this helps

I had the same problem. Discovered , through slo motion , no ball, practice swings, the club face was open at impact position. I decided I didn't want to change anything in my swing. This is sacrilege for sure. I just played around with club face at address. Starting with what to me is a closed club face.

I can see club face at address. I can't see club face when I'm hitting. Its to fast.

1) Your clubface is really 'closed' going back ... I would want it to be a little straighter (it can still be pointing down though)

2) Your right arm is getting to tucked as the club is going up causing your swing to get short.

3) As the club gets to the top, your body has started its move forward before completion of the backswing

That's what I see ... what are you trying to do during your swing?

You could work on any one of those three concepts and you make hit it better for a session but it isn't going to fix your problem ... we have to understand what your trying to do

Here are the things that i am working on / trying to do:

1) get a little more vertical and more wrist hinge in my backswing and complete my turn

2) shallow the club instead of steep on the way down

3) clubface squared or slightly closed in the downswing instead of wide open going into  impact and flipping

Is that what you mean?  I am "trying" to do all of these things but it isn't necessarily showing in my swing (at least I don't think so!).

Your club is not open.  Your arms are never aligned with your body motion.

Arms are too in and flat going back and trail on the way down.

You’re going to have to feel more up in the backswing....and/or more width of hand path away from your chest.

On the downswing, your arms and hands need to accelerate sooner.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

This is a bad fix, but excellent rhythm can fix a lot of things, but it won't last.  I've been struggling with the same issue since the beginning of the season and it took me breaking down, hitting "low flighted shots" to get my rhythm back.  If I had to guess, my trail hip kicks out too early and it opens up the face.  Working on rhythm is the only thing that gets me back to good.

My feel is to not add speed on the downswing.  I tell myself that I want 1:1 swing as in my downswing takes the same amount of time as my backswing.  That is not even close to what is going on, but it helps to build up time in transition to get linked up.  A quick transition will leave your face wide open.  The more you think the face is open you try to get the head down quicker and shut which screws your transition.

Your swing looks better than mine and I'm a 3HC so it could work wonders for you.  It changed my game a few years ago when I figured it out.  If you have great pieces, but it's all out of sync you're f***** anyway.  Good rhythm will make a good swing very good and it help to not exploit some bad things in your swing.

I think I got a little more up and less flat in the backswing here.   Not sure about the hand path through....
