Push cart, time to upgrade?

Recommended Posts

I have a "Caddytek Superlite Deluxe" (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CFGUL2E) that I bought several years ago, it has served me well for 100+ rounds. It's not the greatest push cart in the world but it gets the job done. The biggest flaw is the scorecard holder, which is worse than useless because your scorecard flies out a few times during the round. Whatever, I switched to a back pocket scorecard holder.

So I was looking at the latest and greatest CliqGear offerings. Main reason to upgrade would be:

1. Chair attachment. During tournament rounds things get really slow and having a chair to sit on while waiting on the tee box would be a big advantage, I think.

2. Ease of pushing? I'm not sure about this, maybe all carts are the same in this regard, or maybe some designs work better.

So my questions are:

- For anyone with a "chair attachment", do you find it helpful / useful?

- For anyone with experience with multiple push carts, do you find some easier to push than others? My current cart is almost half the weight (~12 lbs) of the CliqGear offerings (~21 lbs) and my cart has plastic wheels. Not sure how this effects motion.

I’m new to the pushcart game, but after tearing my meniscus last fall I’m walking the course this year to help strengthen everything back up.

I just purchased a Clicgear 4 this week.  I’ve used it twice and I’m super impressed.  I play a hilly course and it rolls smooth, and the brake seems sturdy.  I “pushed” a few carts around in GG/DSG/etc and they all felt a little “loose” like there was play in the frames/joints etc.  The Clicgear is solid.  That’s probably where some weight comes in.

The adjustable height of the top strap is a very nice feature.

I do plan on getting the seat at some point.  If you register your new cart on Clicgear’s website they give you a 20% off coupon that could take the sting out of accessories.

 Good luck on your search!

Don't overlook remote control carts.  I've pushed and carried and nothing beats a remote or follow cart.  I've used a Stewart x9 Follow for just over the last year, playing 3 days a week.  The only minus is the lack of a seat.  I wish I had one.  3 of my friends have remote carts that include a seat, but they don't follow, so it's a trade off.

I played with a guy a couple weeks back who had the x9 Follow. I definitely want one now. His solution to the "no seat" (our club is terrible and has no benches): one of those little lightweight camp stools. It fits between his bag and the frame perfectly, and he would just pull it out when we were waiting. Seemed like a good $20 fix.

OP - the quality of construction on the Clic Gear is top notch IMO.  I have had the same one for 7+ years and it is still going strong.  I have friends with other less expensive ones and it does seem to hold true to the get what you pay for adage.  I also have the seat attachment as well as a buddy does also.  For the really slow rounds it does help take strain off back and legs.  That being said, I did upgrade to the Alphard V2 Wheels for this season.  This attaches to my current CG and works really well.  The Stewart brand noted above is also very good, but can get a little pricey.  Other remote full cart options to look at if interested would be the Cart Tek brand.  There are some good threads on remote battery carts if you want to go in that direction.

Back to the push cart - the CG seat attachment is pretty slick.  Easy to install, use, and doesn't get in the way at all.  Don't be afraid of the overall weight of the CG either - it pushes quite easily and I never had an issue with the weight of it.  NOTE - if you have a stand bag, they also have an accessory that keeps the bag from twisting.  I can't remember the name of it, but they do have it on their site and it works really well.  I have one and really like it.

Just got the seat this year for my Clic Gear and I'm pretty happy with it. Our club still has no benches and as I'm rehabbing a knee injury, it's nice to rest for even just a few minutes here than there during a slow round. As for the cart itself, I'm still using an 8 or 9 year old 3.0 model and the only knock on it is that it seems like it will last forever and not give me an excuse to buy a new one.

Clicgear push carts last for hundreds of rounds. My 2.0 I pushed for about 600 rounds then gave it to my son, replaced the tires, and he’s pushed it another 450 or so. The only thing I’ve had to replace were the truss rods that lead to the tires. One broke, then later the other broke.

My 3.5+ I’ve used for about another 600 rounds. (I walk at least 150 rounds per year so these totals are likely low). The quality on the 3.5+ has suffered. Last year I had to replace the handle after it snapped. This year I had to replace the main tube after it snapped.

Now, those issues are likely from repetitive stress. I’m tall and I push down on the handle a lot. And we cross railroad tracks every day and have to push down, pull up to go over them. So I’m hard on the carts.

That said, the 2.0 has done this over 1000 times and the handle and main tube have never snapped.

BUT, a quick call to Clicgear, order the part, they ship it fast, and put it back together with the new part and you’re back in business.

Carts like the old Sun Mountains with the air-filled wheels roll better than any cart I’ve seen with wide plastic wheels. The downside is if you get a flat during the round it won’t be much fun. But I know guys that have walked 1000+ rounds with them and they’ve never had a flat. So it’s likely something that doesn’t happen. The only thing I don’t like about those carts is they don’t fold up small enough for my needs.

I’ve never tried the Clicgear chair attachment, but with guys in here saying it works okay, I may look into it. Like you, our courses only have benches sparingly. It’d be nice to sit down more during a 4.5 hour round.
