Did you try the triple diamond? That's supposed to be the replacement for sub zero.

 

To OP, the major difference is all about forgiveness and adjustments to compensate. The max has the 16g adjustable perimeter weight, vs the speed has no weight at all. I know this is super oversimplifying things, but the easiest example is do you play game improvement irons or do you play tour blades? The former, you probably would benefit from the max, the latter you don't need the forgiveness and you'd prefer more workability so you'd benefit from the speed.

I play the speed and it performs very well. I tested the Max LS but never hit the MAX. I hit the Sub Zero last year and most this spring but man that thing punishes you off center hits. The speed is very forgiving and almost as long as the SZ.

I play the Max driver and Speed fairway. Very happy with both even at stock. Nice sound and feel, and I find the stock shaft to be very good. Both play very well for me.

I owned both the MAX LS and the Speed (no experience with the MAX unfortunately). I preferred the head shape of the speed by quite a large margin, I didn't like the look of the MAX LS at address at all, and I think thats what lead me to have bad drives with it.

 

I think my main issue with these heads, was that it was hard for me to draw either of them. They either wanted to go just straight, or fade a bit. I'd always line up slightly right of target line and expect it to draw back, but they never did. In hind-sight i probably didn't give either head alot of time,  I ditched the speed after around 3 rounds, and the MAX LS after 2 rounds....

 

With that said, I still much preferred my Mavrik standard, which suited my swing very well. Obviously YMMV

The max is their draw bias driver, speed is pretty neutral, and LS is neutral to fade bias, at least from my fitting experience.

I also much preferred the look of the Speed at address over the Max LS (same shape as Max I think). Also liked the sound of the Speed better. 
 

I switched from the Flash Sub Zero. The slightly more spin head if the Speed compared to the Flash SZ allowed me to take some loft off yet keep the ball in the air to squeeze out a few more yards.

I like the Mavrik SZ.  I love the Speed.
