Starting again after 10yrs. off Swing Advice?

Started back playing with my 7yr. old son. We play a little par 3 course and the range once in a while. I just got a net despite not really caring for them in the past.

Looking for some feedback on my swing so far. I'm trying out a little bit stronger left hand. Trying to work on more lag and rotating better.

My short irons and wedges have been getting pretty good. I tried hitting a couple drivers at Golf Galaxy and it was horrible. Pretty sure I was way over swinging.

I got a couple bags of play sand and filled in the hitting area. It's a slightly downhill lie off play sand, should be good striking practice for us.

Feeling like it's heading in the right direction. Any comments or advice on getting some better extension through impact instead of getting kind of chicken wingy.

Your hands get completely disconnected from your body in the takeaway.

You have a lot of nice ideas going on there and the club is outside of your hands which is ideal.

Hard to explain the feeling you need to feel, but watch this video of Jack explaining the backswing and takeaway and watch how his hands rotate quickly around his body with the club continuing straight back and pointing outwards.

Watch your takeaway and his side by side and really try to understand the difference between what his hands and yours are doing. The club itself and it's angles are relatively similar but they hands are key here.

You can see the difference in hand depth and hip turn in these comparison images.

Thank you. I scheduled a lesson at Golf Galaxy this week to get me started.

I hit a couple drivers, one being the Ping 425max and it (meaning I) was terrible. So bad I decided to grab my old driver, 13* 3w and a 7iron and hit the outdoor range.

As I suspected I was able to basically hit any shot I wanted with the 7iron and 3w(off a short tee for 3w). Driver was tough. I could basically only hit it with and intentional 15yard. cut shot.

So I went to Golf Galaxy to get my 3w regripped and they let me hit it on the monitor for a couple minutes first. Ripped that thing between 240 and 260 with SS at 96-98mph. Even my once out of 20 drivers were only at 99SS and 250 carry, 270 overall.

So basically the 3w is 10yards shorter. I can hit draws and cuts at will and pretty much nut it 80% + of the time.

The biggest difference though, I feel like I'm just hitting a solid 7iron when I swing that 3w, same swing. The driver is garbage 190yd. block slice with that swing.

1 year later. Lets see how different. I'm definitely hitting it further and more accurate on the course. Short game is much better. Been through the full spectrum. Pulls and hooks and then back to some blocks, finally finding a straight shot again. Still loads to work on and deciding where to focus. Whether it's worth the effort to stop cupping and across the line or just work on pivot and release more as I can find the slot from where I am at the top and when I do it's great results.
