48 Hour FLA boys trip recommendations

Recommended Posts

Plan is to leave Friday early, play 18, dinner ideally off site in town, 27 or 36 on Saturday, dinner, early flight home Sunday.

In the running:

-Copperhead/Innisbrook

-Bay Hill + Orlando area public

-Streamsong

Any preference or other suggestions? We like to knock off tour courses so when the stop is there it's fun to follow on TV. Streamsong, the golf is obviously the best, but the resort is middle of nowhere and probably a lot of golf bros there which would maybe be annoying.

In the past we have done:

-Orlando (OC Natl, Grand Cyp)

-Jax (Sawgrass + Amelia)

-Miami (Doral)

-PGA National

Leaning Innisbrook, any experience with the resort? Comparable to PGA Nat?

I was at Innisbrook a couple of weeks ago and Copperhead was in great shape. Rusty Belly's in Tarpon Springs or Frenchies Rockaway on Clearwater beach for casual dinner. Can't go wrong. I've been to Innisbrook many times. Rooms were recently renovated. PM me if you have any other questions.

It really just depends on what you want. If you have to have nightlife etc it isn't the place for you.

But we've found that self-contained resorts like Streamsong (or Sand Valley, Bandon, etc) really offer something special.

The plus side of Streamsong is you can just show up and park your car and then not worry about anything until it is time to leave. The resort is also super lax about bringing your own drinks so we usually just chill at night by one of the firepits with some beers and a bottle of bourbon.

I played Island and Copperhead.  Copperhead was nicer but island was good and everyone says is a bit more challenging than Copperhead, especially if you aren't accurate.

I was there in the middle of October and the Copperhead was in great shape. The greens on the Island were great but the rest of it was so so at best. Island is harder than Copperhead but it also has some really bad holes IMO. 6 and 9 are awful. I think the Island has a renovation scheduled soon.

Funny; the starter warned us about 6. Said they called it the bowling alley because of how narrow it is and that you should play for bogey and just get it in play.  Ironically I hit 2 5 irons and 2 putted for one of the few pars I made all day.  But I agree; bad hole.  9 I didn't mind.

$405? Doesn’t seem right. I would guess $200. I was on a trip there with a member so we played for cart fees in the middle of Oct.  Who quoted you that? Did it include the room?

The guy at reservations, I don't think so, the room was quoted somewhere around 380.....He then initially stated 240 for the golf, but then stated that was only for 9 holes.  Then he stated 405.  To say I was shocked was an understatement.  I have played most of the big boy, big fee resort courses in the country, and 405 shocked me...

You talked to an idiot.  They would be out of business at that rate. I would call back. There is no nine hole rate. I think that was room and golf. I was just on the reservation site.

I was out with my buddy who is a member last night. He said that price wrong

Ha ha, I just called back, I was quoted 405 just for the golf again....I have no problem spending good money on golf courses, but this is as much as I paid for Whistling Straits, more than Erin Hills (with a caddy), twice as much as Streamsong.....

So I am thinking Southern Hills now as our final round of the trip.  Any other thoughts?

I was going to stay there, I figured it would be easier to book a tee time, but I don't have any need to stay there.

I just called. One night on 12/6 is $239 and golf is $319 on Copperhead on 12/7. I'm surprised it's that high. You have to stay there to play. My buddy said the usually have 1 tee time a day for non-resort guests and that could be $1600.
