GC Quad club data - do I need FSX software?

Hope someone can clarify - Do you need FSX software with the GC Quad to see club head data? I have bought a quad with club head data but won't get time to set it up and test it for a little while due to work being really busy. I've bought GSpro so I don't need FSX to play sim golf. Do I need it to practice and see club head data?

Since no one responded, I can chime in a bit. I just got a Bushnell Launch Pro / GC3. It comes with free software. Just basic data. The GC4 is way better and I assume you get all of that data.

 

My friends who have the GC Quad (and even Bryson) just bring the device with them on the course or range and just look at the data directly on the launch monitor. Hope that helps

No, you can download the FS Performance app on any tablet free of charge

It works with a GC2, I know because I've had one. HMT I've never had but I'm sure it'll work too.

I know the app is free, but don’t you need an FSX subscription to use it? I assumed it would require a FSX login or FSX Live credential.

No need, anyone with a GC2 or Quad can use it without an FSX live account. An FSX live account is also free but the 16 digit code is what costs the money.

i have GC2 and HMT and use the app ...it works great (even on very old iPads) and no computer or FSX account is needed 

 

it also lets you email the results of a session as a spread sheet ...

 

great way to keep track of changes over time or just send a buddy his ball and club data

I’m curious about this as well. This thread mentions unlocked quads or GC2s with HMT but I guess I don’t understand why you would need FS performance. Doesn’t unlocked mean you have lifetime FSX software? Why would one want to use another app? Is it the need for a gaming PC?

Two different things. First is GC2/HMT were never "locked", the GCT gave basic ball flight and the HMT gave you the club data. The Gc2 never required FSX, you could use the old FS software, the performance app, or simply rely on the display

 

An "unlocked" quad is totally different, because there were varying levels of data to "unlock" which were one time purchases and stick with the unit itself (ie not only what outputs to an iOS app or software, but also what outputs on the screen). If it has the club data package, you will be able to see it on the screen itself, and apparently on the performance app as well, but if you don't I can't see a reason why you would get the club data using the performance app. Most quads sold brand new forced a purchase of FSX, but that doesn't stop them form working as stand alone units 

 

The BLP is different given the amount of data you get is tied to your FSX membership. If you just have the basic model, I don't suspect you will get all of the club data via the performance app

So if I bought a GC2 I could what I said, but the newer GC3/BLP I have to pay for the club data and FSX

There is a big ol long thread on exactly what the GC3 and BLP are and what you get for what you pay. 

 

The GC2 gives you no club data by itself, you need the HMT unit for that. Even used, a GC2+hmt combo will cost you more than the Gc3. Foresight was smart in how they positioned the products. You ultimately will have to pay for the features you want, but not everyone wants the same features, so there is something for everyone essentially.

A friend of mine recently bought GCQuad but he doesn't want to pay the extra money for club data.  I'm trying to now see if there is some way I can get that even though it won't show up in the FSX2020 on-screen stats.  can I see that data from the top panel of the GXQuad itself?  Or apparently there is an ipad app that can download it somehow?
