1st WITB - 2022 Season

Recommended Posts

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

Been on here for a year now and decided to post my first WITB. 36 years old and had played golf a handful of times in my life until 2019 when I got bit by the bug HAAARD! Now I've played probably 50-60 rounds in the last 2 years. Started off with what turned out to be a junior set of Dunlops. Progressed into Adams V3 hybrid iron set. Found YouTube golf and became obsessed with equipment, reviews, vlogs, etc..

The V3's were incredible and started off my love affair for all things Adams. Now I collect whatever I can find. After I became a better ball striker I moved onto a set of Adams Pro Black CB2's 5-GW with a V4 4iron Hybrid. I found a beautiful set of 3-PW of the XTD Tour Issue irons in basically new condition, but I don't play those.

I recently found a set of 9/10 condition CB1 irons 4-GW and picked them up. Over the weekend I regripped them and wrapped the shafts in white vinyl.

I wrapped my putter shafts in black vinyl, wrapped my wedges in blue vinyl, and also replaced the grips on my 3 putters and 56' wedge.

I have a few other random sets like a set of Dunlop Darts Combo CB/MB with fairways, hybrids and driver in a leather staff bag. An older set of Wilson John Daly CB's. Another cheap set of Dunlop Vista's. A few other random clubs here and there... My wife thinks I have a problem, but I keep telling her I have solutions to problems...

2022 Playing Set:

• Driver: Mizuno ST190 9.5' / FujiKura Atmos Blue / Midsize Super Stroke grip

• 3 Wood: Adams TightLies Titanium 3+ 13.5' / Bassara E55 / Mid Champkey X-Rubber (Golf Pride Z-grip replica)

• 5 Wood: Adams Super Hybrid 19' / Matrix Ozik / Mid Champkey X-Rubber (don't mind the Titleist head cover)

• Irons: Adams Idea Pro Black CB1 4-GW/ Dynamic Gold S300 / Mid Champkey X-Rubber

• 56' Wedge: Cleveland RTX 4.0 10/Mid / Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 / Mid Golf Pride CP2 Pro *only "brand new" club I've ever owned lol*

• Putter #1 - Full Mallet: Odyssey 2-Ball Fang Tank / Cut down shaft / Yamato 3.0

• Putter #2 - Half Mallet: Odyssey White Ice #5 / Champkey CT2 Pistol Grip

Haven't seen that much Adams gear since my bag in '08. Those are some sweet irons man!

Thanks! I fell in love with the V3 hybrids when I had them. As I started learning more about equipment, and found out TM bought Adams, I started looking for Adams equipment specifically.

I guess knowing they don't make equipment anymore made them more intriguing. Plus you can find some incredible clubs for incredible prices.

I still have my CB2's and XTD Tour issues that I can swap out to change things up a bit, but I really don't want to play with the XTD's, they're 9.99/10 immaculate and I don't want to get them dirty...  haha.

Thanks, they turned out great. I think they will last a while as long as I don't bang or rub the shaft against anything too hard... That didn't sound right... 🤣

It's very thin peel and stick vinyl, but it's strong stuff. I've had a sticker on my truck window for almost a year and it's held up.

https://canada.michaels.com/en/oracal-651-permanent-adhesive-vinyl/M20001973.html?dwvar_M20001973_size=12" x 5ft&dwvar_M20001973_color=Mint 055

The weight is very minimal, a couple of grams at most I would think, maybe not even that. I also haven't played with these clubs yet, so I won't notice any "difference" really aside from the difference between the CB2's that I've been using.

Really great bag another one to prove it does not need to be the newest latest and greatest to play well. Those Adams Tight Lies fairways are little pocket rockets. I played a 4&5 for a while. Switched back to my old V-Steels for shaft reasons. In my current state of health the Adams got too stiff for me to hit. Nothing wrong at all with the Tight Lies. I also like the old TM wedge too--- Really like your whole set up with proper shafts for me I could play your bag except the mallet White Hot sorry I am just not a mallet man but that does not mean it is not a good putter

Great clubs and like the vinyl wrap on the shafts as well … Adams really made some great irons prior to he being bought by Taylormade … Love the CB1’s and if you ever get the chance to pick up some MB2’s I don’t think you would regret it .. Really forgiving for a blade design …

Thanks appreciate it. I really don't think much has changed when it comes to forged CB's or MB's aside from weight displacement and design. I've got the newer XTD tour issues which are a 2 piece cast club that has the infamous "speed slot", but they don't have the buttery soft feeling that the forged CB1's and CB2's have. I've been looking on E-Bay at sets of the Pro Black MB's. The set I found were custom painted and look amazing, but they were in Europe and too pricey. I kept a picture for me to look at whenever I want to drool while feeling regret for not buying them haha.

Thanks Stu. I'm a firm believer that technique and skill can accommodate just about any golf club. I think if I had to, I could play with my wife's Lynx's full hybrid set with whippy shafts and all. Would I enjoy it as much or play as well? Probably not, but I'd never complain about being out on the course! The TightLies 3 wood is 13.5* and is an absolute ANIMAL. I've hit it as far as my driver on a few holes. Great club. I got rid of the awful Iomic 2.3 grip that was on there (no offense to anyone who likes those, they're just not my cup o tea), now I'm excited to hit it with a midsized tackier grip. I wish I could find out more about that 61* wedge I have, but I can't find anything. All I know is that it's got a copper face insert, and it's got a very low bounce so I can open it up really wide. Initially I was a fan of a bladed putter, but once I learned about the history of the 2-ball, I had to get one. I'm a big fan of the Odyssey inserts as well.
