Major striking / consistency issues. All feedback welcome!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Lately I have been fighting huge inconsistent striking issues, usual misses would be low left or high right. The problem seems to be worse with the longer clubs.

I have been trying to correct having too much weight on my toes at address, standing too far away and having my backside stuck too far out and I thought this was causing me to early extend not to fall over whilst striking.

I seem to have a big sway & dip to the right during takeaway; leaving my weight on the right side and no matter what I seem to do I can't stop doing it.

Could this be a grip issue?

Any comments and feedback is most welcome,

Thanks

It's not the grip, that seems pretty neutral to me. Usually if it is one way (strong or weak) it has a consistent (bad) result.

Your left arm is pretty straight so that's not it either i think. But the thing i noticed is how cramped it looks. You barely turn your hips on the back swing (and no, you hardly sway) . Both feet are flared out, and with the lead foot, that will prevent you from turning your hips in the backswing.

Try this: left foot less flared out and focus on turning the hips in the backswing. The longer range will also give you opportunity to slow your backswing down a tad

Good luck!

Amen on the posture. Your "ready" position to swing should be as if you're catching a medicine ball thrown your way.

I would not worry about the foot flare as of yet. Keep it.

You rotate very little with your hips, a more athletic stance (and foot flare) should help engage your core muscles a bit more. Feel like your hips are what's driving the whole swing.

I echo what is said about your hip rotation. From the face on view, at 50% speed, on your downswing, you can see that you rotate the hips and then stop, at which point you fire your arms trying to hit the ball. Trying to hit the ball vs making a full, smooth swing will lead to the inconsistencies that have brought up. Imagine swinging a sledgehammer through the golf ball. No way will you be able to control it with your arms and hands. The golf club is no different. The ball just happens to be in the way of the swing and does not need to be "hit". A wide, fluid swing that is powered by your leg and core muscles will lead to consistent ball striking.

Hi everyone

I have been trying my best with all the suggestions and comments on here, I'm am still struggling quite badly. Misses are all over the place with more bad shots than good. I'm just not sure what it is, I think I'm getting to the top of my backswing ok and from there it all goes terribly. Comments and feedback welcome. Sorry about the poor video quality.

Thanks

Well I like this swing a lot more than where you started from... Here's what I'm seeing:

Here you are at address (notice your "squat" position and where your butt is, basically lined up with the tree in the background):

Here you are in transition, decently compact, maybe need just a little space for your trail arm, could just be the angle it was filmed from:

OK, now here you are at impact:

Look how much depth you've lost with your hips. Look how high your head and now hands are and how steep the shaft is. You now have a microscopic amount of time to properly square the face. Look at your front foot, you're on your toes where you need to be driving weight into your heel to help encourage hip rotation and keeping your hip depth (I struggle with this as well) and allow you to attack the ball from a shallower position.

You can't analyze anything from that camera angle. The clubhead appears in a different spot from that angle than it actually is. Hip depth can only be diagnosed if the camera was down the hip line. What you are seeing is more lateral hip motion from that angle.

A couple of things. You dont get much depth because you move toward the ball in your backswing. This gets your weight on your toes and encourages a very steep swing, which causes those two misses. The other thing is the inside taleaway, which gets your arms stuck and also encourages a steep swing. I would work on not leaning towards the ball in your backswing and also work on bringing the clubhead back directly behind the ball. On the downswing just focus on releasing the club. If you dont release it, you will still have those 2 misses.
