Quail Lodge or Carmel Valley Ranch or Half Moon Bay(Ocean)

Hi All,

 

Will be coming from Socal and playing 2 rounds this weekend and the latter round will be Spyglass.

 

I am able to play Half Moon Bay or Quail Lodge for about the same price in the afternoon. Carmel Valley would be about $50 cheaoer.  Will be staying in Santa Clara and am okay driving 1-2 hours one way.

 

Thoughts on which one?

 

I had recommendations for Cinnabar in San Jose...but not sure if that is my cup of tea.  Pasatiempo is my favorite course... I would prefer to try a new one.  I have already played Poppy hills, bayonet courses too.

 

Any other courses would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

I’d choose quail lodge over half moon bay (just my opinion). Cinnabar is a great course too

I played Cinnabar once and I really liked the Lake 9. Ocean course at HMB is nice, but the 18th hole creeps me out with all the pedestrians just left of the entire length of the hole. I deliberately aim down the right hand side off the tee because I do not want to pull a drive and knock someone out.

Ocean at HMB is a fun track, and awesome ocean views. Both Quail Lodge and CVR are nice tracks, but they're courses you will see all over. Fun, but nothing special. I'd go for HMB for the links feel and the ocean views.

 

Cinnabar has a pretty 9 (Lake), a "perfect for the landscape" 9 (Mountain), and a quirk, shoe-horned 9 (Canyon).

Live in San Jose, have played all of these many times.... I agree 100% with the above take.  If you want to head east there are others you could try but it will be VERY hot at any of them.. so stick closer to the coast.

HMB Ocean >>> Quail Lodge >>> Carmel Valley.

 

Poppy Hills beats them all.

HMB Ocean was well worth it. A true links style with amazing ocean views. Don't get both in one course in Socal.

Here's how i would decide. If you are going to do 36 holes then to HMB (Ocean then Old). If you are only doing 18 and want to hang in Carmel / Monterey after then 100% go Quail.  

 

To be clear Quail is in perfect shape right now, not a blade of grass out of place. 

 

Here's some great food spots near Quail if you want to grub before or after.

Thank you for the recs. I'll be back there soon. Spyglass beat me up and I'm coming back sooner than expected for revenge. Looks like next trip will include Quail and those restaurants!!!
