Pinehurst in Sept

Pine needles is my favorite course of the non Pinehurst resort courses. #4 is my favorite of the resort courses.

Tobacco Road is some of the most fun you’ll have or it’ll be the worst round you’ve ever played. There’s no in between. It’s just quirky but something that needs to be played. Personally I love it but there’s a lot of blind shots and slopped greens that drive some people crazy.

If money is no issue stay at the Pinehurst Resort and Play #2 and #4....staying at the resort is the only way to play #2 and #4.

IMO the next best 2 courses in the area are Mid Pines and Pine Needles...I have not played Southern Pines post reno but hear its fantastic.

The next course you'd want to check out is Tobacco Road, its very different and worth seeing once.

Any combination of those 3-4 courses would be a fantastic trip.

We just got back from Pinehurst. Played Mid Pines, Pine Needles, Southern Pines, Legacy, #3, and Tobacco Road.

Legacy was a last minute addition on our drive in. It was only $39, cool layout, condition was mediocre. Worth it at the price for sure.

Southern Pines is the same price as Mid and Pine Needles, which is almost offensive. Clubhouse may as well not exist, course is overall in much worse shape, and staff is more what you’d expect at a budget course. I did enjoy my round there, but would have preferred to have played it first. I think $80-90 is a more realistic price range until they finish construction and get it up to par with Mid and Needles.

Tobacco Road is insane, I can’t understand why some people hate this course so much. Excellent condition, great staff, unique layout (almost an understatement.). You will see things here that you won’t see anywhere else. It’s not very long and it’s not that difficult to post a good score even as a first timer. The carts have a fairly robust gps system that you can use to choose lines.

I liked both Mid Pines and Pine Needles. They felt like they were scoreable if you hit good shots, but still challenging.

If playing these courses my recommended order would be Southern Pines, Mid Pines, Pine Needles, Tobacco Road. #3 is a great course for your second round of the day. We played Needles, then #3, then had some drinks and played the putting course at Pinehurst.

If I were planning a trip there I wouldn’t want to miss Pinehurst resort or Tobacco Road. Pinehurst was such a cool experience, hundreds of people that love golf all enjoying a beautiful property together. Tobacco Road is like playing a video game, insane views. You’ll have a great time no matter what you choose. Such a great area for golf.

Just did this trip last fall and couldn’t agree with you more on #2, 4, and tobacco. We also played #8 and had a blast.

Just stayed 3 nights at Carolina Hotel and did #s 2,4 & 8, and loved every minute of it.  Great deal with full breakfast and full menu dinner included along with golf every nights stay.  Get caddy for as much as possible, Wyatt was great for two rounds I had him.  Great setting, great Course conditions.

exact trip I would like to do ( plus Tobacco Road), how was the end of October weather? I prefer to play in cooler weather.  I’m thinking first of November when the rates drop. You said the course conditions were great were they still pretty green? Starting to transition? Thanks
