advise on claiming lost/damaged during UPS transit?

having some issues claiming lost/damaged stuffs with UPS, seeking some advise. a couple cases here.

 

1. lost

sold an old rare nike iron head here on wrx. the package got lost right after picked up by UPS. issued refund to the buyer right away, and opened a case via UPS site. last record is done by an ‘access point’ in NYC. they have cctv that the package was on UPS man’s hand truck, UPS never cared to request after the claim was open. claim got closed a few times without notice. with hard trying & numerous phone calls, got a hold on a email customer service with a ‘personnel’. last answer was someone’s contacting me, then bails out again. 

 

2. damaged

just happened. sold a shaft in a hardboard carton, delivered to the buyer snapped in the middle. buyer refused to receive, package is on the way back to me. issued refund right away, as buyer told me that UPS driver suggested to deal with it that way. (which i’d naturally be doing so, if were in that shoe). now, i don’t want to be in the same cycle once it’s here, to open a new case.

 

in general, they ask ‘retail’ infos such as merchant UPC, SKU num etc in the claim. which wouldn’t apply to how we sell/buy here on WRX unfortunately. almost always 2nd hands & piece by piece, not exactly can be described by the retail infos, nor ‘priced’ according to such infos. sure these damage/lost things happen to not only unlucky myself, wondering any advise or wisdom from previous experiences? 

 

i’ve dealt with such thru that hopeless USPS. sure they were slow, but was resolvable. the experience with UPS by far (to this dept), it seems suggesting me to eat it up and carry on…

My experience with UPS and USPS insurance has been less than stellar. Granted this has mostly been though work but I've never seen a resolution.

I've almost never seen a positive resolution to anyone getting money back from a major shipping company for an item over the years from ANY of my various hobbies where people B/S/T.

 

Better off just taking the L if its under your personal threshold of a a hit you can take and call it a day.

I just successfully filed a claim with UPS for a broken shaft.  My buyer accepted the shaft and then sent me pictures of the shaft, the label, and the box.  I then filed a claim and submitted a print out from PayPal to show that it was a legit transaction.  I had to follow up twice, but I just received a check.  Better late than never.

Makes me feel lucky I’ve never had to use insurance but feel dumb for paying extra so many shipments if typically they won’t bring a positive resolution

Need to bump this thread….. received a package from USPS and the clubs were destroyed. The shafts were bent at insane angles.  The package was obviously banged up and crushed. 
 

it was a standard box we all use for club deliveries.

 

has anyone had any success filing a claim with USPS?? The package was just shipped with Standard insurance. Is the insurance the extent of the post office liability? 
 

Are claims usually initiated by the shipper or reciever?

Claim is the shipper's responsibility to initiate, and regardless of amount of insurance you should be refunded in full.  Seller could be out a good bit of coin

You get refunded in full. Seller deals with USPS insurance. If seller didn't insure for more, he'll get $50 and that's that.
