Shot even par at my home course this last Friday - I love this game! This afternoon, I go to the range to test a new club, and *hank city - I hate this game.

How do you fix this when it happens? Me, taking a week off hopefully will help.

Check ball position hasn't crept too far back in the stance (assuming you come a bit from the inside) as that might mean you don't have enough time to square the blade back to the ball.  Also double check you aren't standing too close to it, which can also draw the hosel more in play.

After shooting my career low score, I didn't want to play golf again for two weeks.

Everyone has had that day at the range.  I have showed up on more than one occasion with the best intentions only to s**** the first 10 into the net on the right.

All you can do is pack it up and say, "nope, not today", and GTFO and go putt or just flat out leave.

It happens...

This happened to me last year... I shot my career lows in like 4 consecutive rounds (79, 77, 76, 74) last summer got the shanks the next week.  The good news is, at least Ive been told, is that sometimes a shank is a sign of being on the right track... hear me out.  For some shanks, it means your path is inside out or even square, but for some reason you're getting closer to the ball by the time you get to impact.  Before you start messing with you path, double check alignment and set up!  After that, which was the case for me, take some video and make sure you're not coming off your tush line.  If you creep off it you'll bring the hosel closer to the ball when your path is half decent. Do some some drills with your rear against the wall and make sure that isn't the issue.  That helped me.

Man I had a similar situation... was playing the best golf of my life, getting into the high 70's some, and then I went on vacation and played with some old friends.  After telling them all how I'm about to mop up the floor with them, the shanks came.  Shot in the 100's.  Demoralized.  The fun part though... it took about a year to get rid of them.  Man I tried every darn thing I could find.  What it came down to was what @FormerBigDaddy mentioned above... my left hip would come towards the ball on the backswing and instead of firing it back to clear for my hands I was just rotating the right hip forward which caused me to crowd the ball and early extend.  Lost distance, consistency, and would shank literally 7 out of 10 irons.  Some days I was even shanking 20 yd chips.  It was so awful I almost just quit golf.  But thanks to golfwrx, youtube, and some slow motion video we finally got it all taken care of.  Now if I could just get into the 70's again.  🙂

Make sure there is nothing in your left front pocket! Move it all to the right one!

Once while taking a PAT, I was just short of the green on a par four. I shanked the chip to the right of the green. I then shanked that chip to the back of the green. The next attempt shanked to the left of the green. My next chip shanked back to the front of the green, within 5 feet of the first chip! I have no memory of anything after that.
