What is your ~12yo girl playing?

We are headed into winter in Colorado and my daughter is ready to move on from US Kids. I am thinking ahead to her next set of irons when I will probably buy early in 2023. Curious what others are working with and how it has worked out?

My daughter is 5'3" in golf shoes, about 100 pounds, and driver swing speed is getting close to 80 mph. I'm thinking a game improvement iron like Taylormade Stealth with senior shafts. She would probably be fit for cutting them down 1" or half inch but not sure if we should just choke down for now. Everything in "ladies" flex seems sooo light/flimsy I am thinking we stay away from that but I am not sure if I am correct there.

Obviously we will be trying some stuff out over the winter but just curious of others' perspective and experience. Thanks!

We are in the same boat with our daughter.

She's on senior flex right now, but planning to move over to lite steel or regular graphite shafts.

Will be doing some extensive testing over the winter.

Interested to see what you find out in testing.

my 12 year old daughter uses senior flex in her drivr and 3 wood and hybrids, R15 driver and TM hybrids and she is small, so senior at least should be good for her, her irons are US kids

At 5’3 your daughter is tall enough to swing a normal length ladies club. Because of that, I would do a fitting. That is your best route as far getting the right clubs but more importantly the right shafts. The fitter where my daughter takes lessons put her in Mizuno irons and had recoil shafts. The flex on the clubs was ladies flex but he hard stepped them to make them function like a senior flex. He did this to keep the weight down because senior flex shafts weigh more than ladies flex. Worked out great for my daughter. You want a GI type iron and all of the major companies have those. You are going to go through so many sets over time that I wouldn’t break the bank on things.

Thanks all! So if you are ordering clubs in "senior" flex, do you get them cut down an inch or half an inch from men's standard length? I know that cutting them from the butt should stiffen them but I think not enough to make too much of a difference?

ya I cut down, I cut down the L flex as well as my daughete is pretty short, the next set probably only an inch

Went to PGA Tour Superstore this weekend and hit the Mizuno JPM 923 hot metal high launch and Wilson D9 irons with recoil ESC and recoil Dart shafts in senior flex. My daughter liked them a lot and seems like we are on a good path. Will continue to test through the next few months and order something ready for spring.

My sons seem to have adopted a 13 year old 'little sister' who practices and plays with them.  She won the Bobby Bowers Tournament 13 and under girls division earlier in 2022.  She has these in her bag:

Callaway Epic Max with a senior flex shaft.  She easily goes 200 plus with it.

Cobra LTDx 4 wood with a senior flex shaft

Cobra LTDx hybrids

Cobra LTDx irons with graphite shafts (I believe these are senior flex)

Callaway MD5 wedges with graphite shafts

Odyssey White Hot #7 Putter

Callaway Chrome Soft Golf Ball

TaylorMade Qi10 Driver, 10.5*, GD Tour AD IZ-5S

Ping G430 Max 3 and 7 Woods, 16.5* and 21.0*, Alta CB Black 65R

TaylorMade 2023 P790 Irons, 4-PW, TT DG 105 R300
Titleist SM9 Wedges, 48.10 F, 54.10 S, 60.10 S, TT DG Wedge S200
Titleist Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2 Putter

It is horrible trying to buy clubs for a kid between 12-14.

My youngest is 12 and i am about to re-shaft her clubs again after 6 months even though they were way too long for her when she got them.

A few years ago you could buy used shafts and cut them them down on ebay now there crazy expensive and you better buying either new clubs or shafts.

Having just gone through this with my older daughter. I am not even attempting to worry about a perfect fit.

When  there growing this much your only option is try and get ahead of them a bit.   It really doesn’t matter at this age what you buy just make sure you have the correct length annd flex on most things so they can develop.

For the money the PXG 0211 irons are hard to beat. My daughter is 14, 5'3. Just really starting to take the game more seriously. She has "A" flex MMT shafts.

There's a girl she got to play with a few months ago, finished 2nd in the state, shot 32 the day they played 9, plays the same irons.

Tried to pull the trigger on a set of PXG 0211 about a year ago during a sale and the site kept glitching.  I gave up and bought used Hot Metals.

Those are great sticks too. I actually called PXG to order my daughter's irons. Very knowledgeable and great customer service. You don't have to order their clubs online.
