First swings since trail shoulder dislocation a month and a half ago

Dislocated my shoulder on November 13th for the fourth time, first time since having shoulder arthroscopy. Fun stuff!

 

Anyway, I had my best ever season last year and was looking forward to the winter grind and upcoming season. The swing feels better than I thought it would, and I seem to haven’t lost any distance which is reassuring.
 

I noticed my strike pattern was more toe side, which was also an issue last season. Any feedback is appreciated!

A lot of good stuff there, i'd be shocked if you weren't low single digit to + handicap range.

The main thing that stands out to me is a little bit of a stall/flip going on in the downswing which feels like a combo of a really high/long backswing and fast hips:



Pretty uncanny how still your head stays here. Good hip depth, i'd just argue that the club getting all the way to parallel here and your hands being that high makes it tough to keep them in sync in the downswing:



You make an aggressive move with the lower body here, however...



The initial aggressive first move stalls out a bit while the hands catch up. We see more extension here than we do rotation and we see that right arm getting dangerously close to straight at impact. Nothing egregious and really only noticeable when viewing the swing in full. You're getting in very similar positions throughout as JT here on the right who has less extension and more rotation through impact.

So in summary, hips start quick in the downswing but then have to stall a little bit to let the hands catch up leading to a little bit of a flip and a chasing right hand through impact. IMO a slight shortening of the backswing and/or something like Monte's Zipper Away lower body move to buy yourself a little more time to get synced up would be good. 👍

Thanks @Valtiel! I’d be lying if I said your responses to swing videos didn’t inspire me to post mine. 

You were correct in guessing my handicap range. I’d like it to be lower, who wouldn’t, but my short game is what holds me back a bit. 
 

The zipper away move makes a ton of sense. It also reminds me a lot of the exaggerated move Tiger does here. 

 

Anyway, thanks again. I really appreciate you taking the time to break down my swing. I’m excited to work on moving my zipper away in upcoming sessions.

That move is exactly it, yeah. I thought it was really interesting to see Tiger rehearsing that since it's a super core fundamental that he has leaned on his entire career. And in classic "feel vs. real", this is what he actually does:



Just a little bump back, but at a crucial point in this swing where the backswing has completed and the wrists are loaded. For guys with super fast hips like Tiger has always had (less so these days obviously) this is a movement that both helps sync things up so the hips don't just outrace the upper body while also helping maintain depth. Might be worth trying!
