Impact Screen Enclosure Question

Hey guys looking at doing my first bay/screen build for my quad. Most I’ve seen don’t seem to have any overhead netting and if so it’s only a few feet out. Being around 10-12’ from the screen hitting I feel like this could be an issue with wedges. Has anyone had this issue and if so what is the solution?

For reference I’m planning to use 16 (D) X 14 (W) X 10 (H) space. My main question is how much of the 16 of depth needs to be netted overhead for wedge shots. Thanks!

Are you doing a full enclosure with sides and a top that extend out? My garage build had an impact screen, then about two feet to the ceiling that I closed with netting. I purchased and secured acoustic tiles that run out about 6 feet. Most errant or flops hit the netting. I’m about 8 feet from the screen

Thats a great idea! Could you send or post any additional pics you may have of your setup?

Have you thought much about swapping your garage door opener out for a wall mount? I see it could be a space issue...

I originally had a net and oriented the hitting on half the garage towards the door. Now the garage door opener and framing are out of play. But I did look into side mounts. More reasonably priced than I expected.

I’m open to anything. Space shouldn’t be an issue just want to make it as effective as possible. The plan right now is to build my own EMT frame for the screen and then can enclose or hang net from the same structure. Was thinking netting on top and then black curtains on the side to try and isolate vs being in an open room hitting. Thanks for sharing!

In the process of redoing our simulator, but we are currently 16 feet away from the screen (basement ceiling height of 12 feet) and at that distance you will absolutely need some type of protection (net, or top). My son and I both have hit it over the enclosure that we currently have - 10 feet of height, frequently.

Are you using a radar unit or camera based? The OP has a quad, they have no reason to have the hitting area 16ft from the screen

We are using a GC3 so we are in the same boat. Some of this was to minimize bounce back and make it a bit more realistic giving some room prior to the screen. My son is a senior in high school with high ballspeeds and will be playing college golf next year so a little bit of space has been nice. Plus, on chipping it’s a bit more realistic in my mind, but obviously personal preference.

we will most likely put a birdie ball putting green in between the screen as well, but that’s more aspirational at this point.
