MMT 125 tx shaft really worth the hype?

Another shaft I have played and really like is the la golf l series 120 gram extra stiff.

Stiffness wise, how much different between the two.

Have never played. Trono 75TX was a different profile fron the MMT 125TX - mich more mid-stiff. Fwiw.

It's going to move that mid-bend section a little closer to the tip, which may slightly increase launch, counterintuitively. You may or may not prefer that.

Can you explain this a bit more? Are you saying hardstepping would cause it to launch higher?

We would have to know more about the tip section and midsection to say for sure. Definitely my taper-tip 4i 125TX shaft in a 3i head does NOT launch low. I would describe it as mid-bend mid-spin mid-launch. But I have not hit them straight-in for comparison. And to be clear, this is the TT *iron* shaft, not the UT or the Hybrid shaft.

I have played the c taper 130 x before. Definitely a stout shaft.

But by hardstepping the mmt 125tx, that won't make them as stout as the c taper 130x will they?

More like hard stepping an x100.

for most a hardstepped mm125tx won’t feel as “firm” as a c taper 130.

Steel and graphite feel pretty different, in my experience. I would put CT130, X7, X100, PX 6.5 LS, etc etc in one basket. And MMT 125TX et al in another.

The steel shafts feel and play differently from each other, and we all have our preferences. But graphite is a different animal. Definitely more 'absorbent.'

The MMT 125TX taper-tip has its own feel. For me, it's a smooth mid-bend. But it's a great-feeling shaft that fits a lot of players. I would definitely recommend trying it out.

When I was told the MMT 125 tx were a lot like x100s but “more active” that concerned me a bit. I don’t won’t my iron shafts to be active. I like it stiff. So I ordered them hardstepped once.

Active iron shafts do not sound like a good thing.

At least to me.

I always assumed that hardstepping would make it flight lower.

I guess it’s player dependent on how you load the club.  I’ve hit both hard stepped and they swung about the same.  The MMT feels different at impact (when it hits the ball and then ground).

niether were as linear as the c taper 130x, not did you feel mishits the same

Generally true when hard stepping. Not always true when tipping. I should've clarified:

Tipping, depending on the shaft, may cut away part of a stiff tip section, and bring a mid-bend hinge closer to the tip, both of which could increase launch angle.

Hard-stepping puts the shaft from a shorter iron into the head of a longer club. That will almost always mean a firmer tip and lower launch. Also stiffer, b/c the head is lighter.

(On some butt-soft shafts, incidentally, you can get a really creamy handle with a very firm tip. I had an 8i Tour Concept X1 in a 3i head once. Amazing club. Worth playing around with if you like that feel.)

Personally I'm surprised that anyone would feel that the DG120 X100 is anywhere near as stiff feeling as MMT 125TX, C-Taper X, or X100's. IMO they aren't comparable.

I have not tried MMTs, any of them.  I own a set of the L-Series in 4-flex. I find them maybe a hair-less stiff than X100, but not objectionably so.  I'm certainly not overpowering things left.  They're also flighting lower, though I think this is an archer, not arrow, thing.

Russ of Golf Shaft Reviews, has the MMT 125TX at a 21 in EL-Area, the L-Series 5-Flex at 20, and the 4-Flex at 19 in EL-Area.  So a tad stiffer for the Mitsubishi.

As I've read here, X100 was the goal for feel and behavior for the MMT engineers for this product.
