Celebrating our 43rd anniversary tonight! We’re usually somewhere in the mountains on this date, but we scheduled Glacier in July since Going to the Sun Road often doesn’t open until then. 
 

Since it’s also Mrs. Lindy’s birthday, I cooked dinner tonight - medium rare+ filets with horseradish sauce, grilled corn, and fondant potatoes. If you’ve never had the latter, I’d highly recommend giving them a try! Very easy to make.

It’s not completely flat, but nothing like the extreme mountain golf you play regularly.  Our course goes from semi private to private in 11 days and will see how the redesign changes things.

Man, I am not physically able to do that kind of work any more, but you are right on. The only thing worse than drywall is roofing IMO.

I made a mild equipment change last Sunday. I didn't putt poorly with my recently installed Super Stroke Wrist Lock grip nor did I really dislike it out of the gate. I just came to the realization after 4-5 rounds that I missed a taper pistol style shaped putter grip. I also don't find a SS grip near tacky enough.  No more SS experiments for me. 🤪 Last week I visited a few golf stores here in town and tried on all that I could get my hands on. I have always liked the stock grips that come on Odyssey putters and had one on my Toulon Las Vegas that I gamed for two seasons a few years back. At our local DICKS I found a new Odyssey Jumbo sized replacement grip that instantly liked and decided to have installed. Pistol taper style it was, and nice and tacky.  I had one brief practice putting session with it on Sunday evening and that was it before it went into the bag for this weeks play. 

 

Speaking of flat golf courses I played the flattest course in the greater Asheville area on Monday. Crooked Creek is quite flat. Only three holes have any kind of mild elevation change. I started out quite poorly. Besides hitting fairways with my driver I had not much of a swing. I missed too many greens and I missed too many putts. The greens were rather slow at The Creek and I couldn't get the speed dialed in. I also missed quite a few putts by misreading the line by a ball or two. I had on the front nine two doubles and and three bogeys. I shot my worst score for nine holes in months with my +7 43.  Bill turns to me on the #10 tee box and says, "man LP I beat you for 9 holes I think for the first time." I reply with, "keep it up your steady play Florida golfer and you can probably beat me for 18 also because I've been searching for a turn around the entire front 9 and I have nothing." 

I made bogey on the number one handicap hole #10 when I airmailed the green with my 3 wood approach shot and failed to get it up and down. I thought maybe playing in the wind had something to do with my inconsistent play. Like I said in an earlier post this week it was blowing 15-25 mph for our entire round. On the uphill Par 3 11th hole the wind was directly in and it was two clubs. From 130 I hit a 6 iron to 15 feet. That was finally an on target iron shot by me. Did I drain the birdie? No I left it short and on a bank in a bad spot and ended up 3 putting for bogey. 9 over thru 11. For no reason at all on the 12th hole I started to make pars and Bill started to make doubles and I started to pass him by. Poor Bill he put the hex on himself by pointing out he beat me on the front. 😀  I made four consecutive pars next. What ? What happened? How did I finally get consistent?  On 16 I hit my 3 wood down the middle on the longish Par 4 and Erik asks, "Why did you hit that club LP when you haven't missed a fairway all day with your driver?"  My reply, "Erik this is my nemesis hole. See those power lines over on the left that run along Crooked Creek's bank for the entire hole? Well I have tugged more than my fair share of drives OB over there so this year I made the promise that I would only hit 3 wood off 16 tee."  From 158 I hit my 6 iron to 12 feet and made the putt for a birdie. Better one late than never. The 3 wood tee shot paid off. I made two pars on 17 and 18. I ended up with a 1 over 37 on the back and an even 80 for the round. Mike was the medalist with his 74.

 

It was a comfortable 78* with nice breezes Monday afternoon in Hendersonville. The sky was a spectacular shade of blue all round long. I am always happy when Mike and Erik drive up to the mountains to play some Asheville golf with me. It's great to have Naples Bill here for the summer to add to my golf buddies group. I was pleased that somewhere mid round I did finally find a more sound swing and a better putting stroke. ⚡🏌️‍♀️⛳

Drywall is the worst of the worst.  I do know one drywaller who absolutely excels, loves the work, and as he said to me while doing a job, “If I can’t successfully compete against my competition, I have bigger problems than work.”

 

Having said all this.  It is a skill.  The perfect example of every occupation has a lot more skill needed than the average person would expect.

Worst part is, i own most of the specialty tools for finishing.  When I was remodeling all the time, it's impossible to get someone to come out and hang/finish a room, I get why.  So, while I can produce pretty good work, I'm still slow, it's still dirty and it's still my least favorite thing to do.  I'd rather set 9 foot tall Advanced wall forms (which weigh more that me 😆)

That is a good guy to know if you’re going to do any renovation work! A good plumber is, IMO, critical too. Drywall is 100% a skill, one that I do not have.

Thanks, LP! No bubbly for us - neither one of us are big fans. And I’m on an alcohol-free kick, kind of as a lark. Not sure how long I’ll last.

 

Fondant potatoes are delicious and surprisingly easy to make. Just cut the potatoes down into cylinder shapes, brown the tops and bottoms in a neutral oil, add some butter, garlic and any other aromatics that you want, fill the pan with chicken broth to at least halfway up the sides of the potatoes standing on end. Bake uncovered for about 30 minutes. The potatoes will absorb the stock, but the butter will remain and makes a tasty sauce. Top the potatoes with some of the now roasted garlic. Yum! There’s a version that uses nothing but butter (no stock), but it takes a lot of butter to melt down and fill the pan. It’s decadent, though.

There are 2 short par 4s on my home course that I treat the same way. I’ll even hit 5i off the tee sometimes, which leaves a 5i or 6i in. The boxes just don’t fit my eye, and as inviting as those short holes are for D, I have sworn it off after hitting so many OB.

.... After 38 years of marriage, the biggest issue I find about living alone is the food. Always difficult at best for one but the constant attention 3 meals a day takes is exhausting. Having breakfast/lunch already prepared has to be an almost priceless gift. I hope you realize how awesome it is to have your meals prepared by professionals!  🥰

It's a pain indeed to cook for only one chisag. I know because I do it. Yes I do realize how fortunate I am to get all the nice quality food that I do at work. Being in the service industry almost 40 years I am used to it. We are by no means paid high wages so the good food that we are given can also be viewed as a cost saving perk that we get.

You sometimes have to take advantage when you see an opportunity. 

 

It rained lightly off and on this morning here. It was the first rain we have had in over a week. The rain stopped but the clouds stuck around so we got a break from the heat today. I just arrived at the range because I figured I needed to take advantage of the cooler weather conditions and get some practice in. It's 76* with 70% humidity. After first stretching I will do day two of Noah's swing both ways (no not that meaning 😀) drill as I brought my orange whip, and then I will begin to hit some shots.

Well, it happened.  I had a fitting in the rain, then no rain, then some wind, then no wind, and...

 

I hit the BlueprintS, the T100, and the T150.  The shafts were swapped in and out, the heads were changed, and it repeated itself for about 40 minutes before I was butt-tired out.

 

The stats vs the old clubs.  Ballspeed up as much as 7 mph with the 7i, but the loft of course was 2-5 less.  Spin increased about 1000 rpms if I hit it with the club face.  The combination of the ball speed and the spin actually had the ball going higher and on a better trajectory than the old irons.  The carry was only about 5 yards more, but I would imagine from the side it had the more out, up, down flight than the up, crest, down flight.  The launch angle went from 20* down to 18*.

 

The best of the bunch ended up being the T150, 2* up, 1/2" long on the shaft.  As @chisag noted the lofts are 4* stronger than my current clubs so I bought the A wedge at 48* to the 7i at 32*.  The shaft I seemed to handle best was a steel ATM Red or something like that, which is 20 grams heavier than my current shafts.  He is ordering them with the Mid-size Plus4 grip, and who knows when they will get here.  Maybe just in time for the MT sim season?

After Bill got to play for the first time the CC of A he wanted to thank me by taking me out to dinner for making it happen. We went to a place "Asheville Restaurant Pro" Stan highly recommended. The Madness was only 5 minutes from the Country Club. Bill and I shared two appetizers. He ordered the California roll and I tried for the first time Octopus. I ordered the first item in the second column up top on the menu the Takoyaki Balls (Octopus). It was delicious. Stan told us we had to have burgers. I went with the Mushroom Swiss, with bacon too of course. It was so delicious it just might be my new favorite burger in the AVL. The burgers are a 1/2 lb of ground in house Angus Chuck.  The FF's were divine too. I thought all the food presentation was very well done. My only complaint was our lazy and not attentive server, but that nonsense is all over in Asheville restaurants. This generation of young adults have no clue on how to do decent table service. 

 

I will go again soon to The Madness because just like Stan told us.........they do have great food.

I know your fitting was with your pro, but when I did mine with Titleist the the build and delivery to me took 16 days, shipping from CA to NJ would obviously take longer than to MT.  Congrats and good luck with them!
