Oh man! This “winning pages” deal reminds me of a time a while back (I believe it was in the Grille thread???) where someone was making one letter/silly posts to intentionally manipulate “winning a page”. If I remember correctly it caused some sort of rift… Silly stuff 😜

later, i fenced in an additional 100x100 yard attached to their coop and run to give them a ton of “free range” space. so on nice days, i go out to the coop and open the door into their yard and they scratch around all day in there eating leaves and looking for bugs

 

we lost 2 of our original 12 to a raccoon who snuck in through a gap that i had overlooked.  then we lost a 3rd to heatstroke and dehydration. 

 

so we bought 3 more chicks to get back to 12. one of those was eaten by a hawk while they were in their yard, so now we’re down to 11 and the 5 new ones will get us to 16 (15 hens and one rooster) which is the max our henhouse will hold. 

 

all in all, with the way i’ve set their space up, they’re minimal work and minimal cost. 

 

i pour 80lbs of food into their hopper every 6 weeks or so, and their water bucket holds enough for a week in the summer or 10 days in the winter. but i’ll be making them a larger one when the new birds arrive. 

 

i go collect eggs almost daily and check on their food and water every few days but realistically, they can he left unattended for a week or so with no issues.

Did your wife name them?  If she didn’t, you can fatten them up for Chicken Parm and any other delicious dish you can think of!

a few of the more unique looking ones have names, but the rest look so similar we’d just be guessing at who’s who. 

 

she swears that they’re named after spices, but lavender, cinnamon, pepper, sage, and saffron sound like strippers to me. 

 

plus our rooster is chili and that’s a pimp’s name if i’ve ever heard one.

Not necessarily. Unless somebody deliberately adds extra meaningless posts a little under 4 pages is a good bit to cover in less than 24 hours. Plus Sunday is notoriously our slowest day. I say TS,NCL, and BC are still very much in this.

I am the youngest by 7 years.  If I wanted to play I got put in the BS position.  As a 5 year old I was goalie in street hockey.  My parents hadn’t amassed a ton of equipment so essentially I had shin pads, a hockey glove and a baseball mitt.  These kids are 12, I am 5.  If I gave up a goal they yelled at me, if it hit me… that was worse.  I could catch just about anything by age 7, was it nature or nurture?  I really don’t know.

 

Catching came easily and naturally to me by the time I started playing baseball at around 12.

 

And this is controversial.  I sort of agree with Chisag, hand eye coordination isn’t athleticism.  Baseball, like golf, is a game dominated by athletes, but being “good” at baseball is not the same as being an athlete.  Regardless of “the hardest thing… is hit a baseball.”  Being great, yeah, generally they are athletes but I would never say bc I played baseball through high school I was an athlete.  The sport I played through college, generally they were more aerobically more athletic and also foot eye since it was a game in motion.
