65g x flex vs 75g stiff flex in driver?

When does one jump up in weight versus jump up in flex?

 

if we take a shaft like Hzrdus Smoke Yellow in stiff and flex but at different weights. 
 

Does the 60 x stiff play stiffer than the 70 stiff? Or is weight more important?

Short answer is no - assuming you're asking about the exact same shaft make/model and just changing weight.

 

Particularly with graphite - weight and stiffness are completely independent.   How the stiffness might change as the weight changes is something that each shaft designer has a choice in making.    Some companies try to keep the stiffness profile the same as the weight changes - while others choose to tweak the stiffness as the weight changes.   But even in those cases, it's more common that they might make the tip a bit stiffer as the weight increases - and not so much of a change in the butt/mid stiffness.   I've even seen some cases where the heavier shaft was a bit softer.  In no case that I've ever seen does it even come close to a full flex change in stiffness.   So at worse, if you don't like the change in stiffness feel - then dropping down a flex is usually not the best solution.  One typically would have to find a different shaft model at the new weight to get back to the feel they are looking for.

There are always exceptions but generally weight is much more important than stiffness.    And even when stiffness is important to some individuals, that doesn't usually make the weight any less important.
