Upgraded Wedge shafts

what is out there, is it worth it?
Ok, since joining this site I have become alot more knowledgeable about shafts. I know of most of the different shafts for woods and irons. But what about wedges?

In the What is a golfwrxer, more than 100 people said they had upgraded their wedge's shafts. What is out there as far as different wedge shafts, and is it worth it? I know the answer for woods and irons is a yes, but about a 60 degree lob wedge. I am trying to figure out what people have done with their lob/gap wedges and why.

Thanks,

Mike

I upgrade my wedge shafts so they're rifles and better match my irons

you could also play a stiffer or softer flex depending on how you like to play shots, or tip to change spin and trajectory

I would assume the people around here who haven't upgraded their wedge shafts are already playing DG S300 in their irons

I've had Nippon Super Peening Oranges, Nippon Super Peening Blues, Tour Concepts, Project Xs and Aerotech Steelfiber i125s in my wedges....none compare to feel/feedback/control of the i125s....

Aerotech seems to have kinda of cult following status.

They're on my shortlist.

There's a very good reason for that cult status. If you haven't messed with it, the stuff flat out performs and I'd venture to say there aren't better non-steel shafts out there for irons and wedges that Steelfibers, at least in my experience...they're ridiculously stable.

I played s200, s300 and s400 in my 52 and 58 wedges the past 6 years, loved the half swing control. On full swings I hit the 52 too high and not get the distance to full the gap. I bought a used set with x100 in the 52 and rifle flighted in the 58 planning to reshaft with px. The x100 in the 52 works perfect because it lowered my flight and still maintains the feel and control on less than full swings. The 6.0 rifle flighted has a nice feel and flat flight on full swings, yet has a nice touch around the greens. I am going to reshaft the 52 with a rifle flighted soon, hoping to maintain that low flight I get with the x100.

Thanks for the reply laser animal. Do you know what shafts are there that increase spin?

My guess is that anything with a softer tip will theoretically spin more

that would mean that shafts like rifle spinners, TX-90, or Dynalite will probably spin more then Project X or DG but you'll give up some stability thorough impact and some full swing playability if you're a person that loads the shaft really hard.

I've played Spinners in my 58* wedge, it was absolutely perfect on little touch shots but I never could get used to how it played full swing so I switched back to regular rifles

Fitted a Rifle Spinner and didn't like the excessive spin. Felt different to the 5.5s in my irons. Tried a friends Ping with graphite, lacked consistency. Personally I think Nippons are junk, too light and dead feeling.

Overall the Dynamic Goldf is your best option. X100 for absolute control, S300 for normal swingers and R300 if your want to feel the head a bit more.

A new Dynamic Gold hilaunch shaft is due out but not sure what the specs are yet.
