Goodbye EE, but now my launch angle is high

Recommended Posts

Worked on my swing a lot. Even posted it here before. Finally I removed my EE. Followed Montes videos for over 3 years now.

I recently started using the ground better and lost all EE and gained a lot of speed. 8 iron is now about 90-92mph. Still I'm losing distance because of a higher launch angle. 22 degrees with 38 degrees of loft.

Because of the jumpier swing with the use of ground force I deliver more loft.

Any drills to get numbers better?

And yes, after this video I started working on freeing my chin and chest. This way I gain freedom in the backswing and get the shaft pointing at the ball at arms parallel.

A good quality face on video would confirm this, but i'd be shocked if it wasn't due to your backswing length:

If this is an 8-iron then swinging beyond parallel like this (club head on the red dot) while doing everything else basically right (which it looks like you are) then you're almost surely forcing a flip at the bottom due to your arms lagging behind your lower body.

Everything else looks pretty solid, so a face on video would be needed to make sure. Preferably filmed on something newer than a potato from 1998. 😅

Yeah the potato was my pro filming his own screen 🤣. I'll try and capture a face on.

Hard to see from down the line view but looks like you may have some chicken wing going on, could be adding loft there.

A chicken wing would have the elbow pointing up not down. It's true I could extend my arms for longer, instead of collapsing that soon. Still going with the shorter backswing route.

Need a quality side view. Why would you change a backswing because of an impact issue?

Are you playing outside or been in those sims for months on end? Probably just need to get on some tight hardpan and rip some headhunter 5irons and it'll be gone in 10 minutes.

Playing mostly outside, we had mild winter this year in the Nerherlands.

I think the setup, backswing and transition are the components we can work on, to set us up for a well performed downswing. I think the downswing is too short to consciously alter it. And if your clubhead is out of position on the top of the backswing, you need to correct a lot to get it back on track. Getting it correct means less corrections and from there more consistency.

Slowmotion training of the correct downswing move is something I do. Mostly without club, against a wall.

Perhaps, although we would need a high quality face on view to say for sure. It is hard to tell if your wrists are over-hinging or not with the video provided and i'm mostly just saying a backswing that is simply too long. You could take this swing and apply it to a driver/fairway wood and it would feel appropriate whereas the "Force Lag" concept Monte talked about there wouldn't be appropriate for anything.
