Opinions on Dornoch's Struie course?

I'm looking at my schedule for my summer trip and there is a window on the day we arrive in Dornoch to play Struie, but then again with a little added effort, I could replace it with Golspie. But if I get the green light on Struie from this group, I'll just play it and save the drive to and fro. We are playing Dornoch Championship the next day, which is the real main course. The Golspie/Struie is just the appetizer, of course.

Struie is not worth skipping a game at Brora, Tain, Golspie or F&R.

I'm a little biased because we played it in a steady 45 mph wind off the sea - at least it was sunny, lol.  It was not in good shape, the areas between the fairways were weedy and kind of ratty and they had just done a wholesale, level topping off of those areas with mowers (looked like hell), and very few holes that I would consider even good ones and struggle to remember any of them.  We went back and forth on playing (it was included in our fee to play the main course) and did it just for fun, haha, but take away the challenge of the wind, it would have been a nice walk on by far the least interesting course we encountered in two trips to Scotland.  We all agreed we would have been better off to do anything else that morning and wished we had.

 

If you are there and aren't aren't playing Brora I pray for your soul.

Golspie it is, and yes, Hawkeye, we are playing Brora the day after Dornoch Championship!

My tuppence worth - play Fortrose and Rossmarkie on the Black Isle on the way up to RD - very old, very quirky links - with dolphins jumping out the water on the 4th and 5th some meh holes but some crackers in there - steal at 60 quid ( or was last time played) fantastic days golf! Very welcoming club. Couldn’t rate the enjoyment  factor higher honestly.

+1 for F&R. Gorgeous location. Inexpensive and good quality golf.
