Custom Fitting Heads Question

Hello folks! I went in for an iron fitting a few weeks ago and had a question around it. I was fit for TaylorMade stealth heads, Steelfiber 110 stiff shafts, 1/4” and 1 degree upright.

 

When these are ordered are the heads actually different from stock off the shelf heads aside from the lie adjustment? For instance would TaylorMade actually tune the weighting of the heads based on the shafts being used and the little bit of length getting cut down?

 

Just trying to understand the full extent of the process!

Did they fit for swing weight/head weight as part of the fitting?

Unfortunately, what each of the factories might do to adjust head weight based on other changes (like playing length and shaft weight and shaft balance point) is very unreliable and not very well published or communicated vis CS reps.  But there does seem to be a trend of less and less being done across the different OEM's - So I wouldn't get your expectations up.  It's not uncommon that they tend to just make sure the swing weights are matched - not necessarily hit a particular swing weight.  Although they might use b-weight heads for over length builds (say +1" or more) if they even make them for the model you're interested in.

Awesome thank you sir! The fitter alluded to weight being added or removed from the heads making them different from an off the shelf stock head set.

 

The conversation came up when I had asked about cancelling the order for the heads and possibly switching to a different head. Basically the order can't be cancelled and he wouldn't be able to just hold the heads for another custom TM Stealth iron build as the fitting would need to be identical to my specifications.

Adding weight is easy via tip weights - but it's rare to find custom builders that will be able to actually remove weight from a head since that typically involves drilling out material from somewhere on the head (usually at the bottom of the hosel so it's not visible).   Some heads (some ping and pxg) might have some weights that can be removed but most do not.
