Tartan Turf Champion Mat / Bullseye Hitting Strip

Still research what other hitting mats are out there, holy s*** is this market fragmented and all word of mouth. Expensive, 80% of the market has a 0 return policy, and you can't see / demo them in person.

 

Seeing some positive info on the Bulls Hitting Strip which is the Tartan Turf Champion Mat, but a strip. Anyone have either of these? Did a search and didn't see an existing thread.

Ending up buying the Champion Mat. The 5 x 5' version of the Bullseye hitting strip...

 

With that said, holy s***, this thing is it. I have tried EZ Tee, Monster Mat, Matzilla, and Fiberbuilt in the last month. It's just a touch softer than EZ Tee which gives the fat shots a more realistic feel. It's less fluffy than the Fiberbuilt, so the strikes feel more true. It has the nice 5/8 pad underneath so I have hope the impact absorption is there.

Kudos to Bulleye for finding and promoting this product. I contacted Tartan Turf to look for a local demo opportunity and they connected me with their local rep. He met me a driving range, let me demo it, and bought it onsite. If anyone is interested in this mat, do the same! Aside from the demo opportunity, the hitting strip and mat are significantly less expensive through a local dealer. My Mat was cheaper than EZ Tee and I found a local Syn Turf dealer who was selling the mat for less than SimTurf.

Only "negatives"? The color is hot green. For people like myself keeping it simple with a 5 X 5', it's a bit fluffy for stance.

Also, they do sell a combo mat like Fiberbuilt with a thinner stance mat, the hitting strip, and a plastic holder.

I absolutely believe a mat is very much personal preference, but this falls right between Fiberbuilt Grass and CCE, which are probably the 2 most popular mats out there? Hard to find a fault.
 

It’s $450 through Tartan or a local rep? that’s not “cheap” but $550+ is the going rate and it’s definitely a value 
 

only negatives so far? 
• Slightly soft for a stance mat. It’s not bad, but the Tartan version like the Fiberbuilt hour glass might be the best thing available period?

 

• color, has that 80s AstroTurf / cheap range mat coloring. The Tartan rep said point blank the color stops high end driving ranges from buying sometimes because customers perceive the color as cheap

Yes, absolutely, I would say it averages 1 use a week  for 2 hours. In reality sometimes it's  6 hours 1 week and 0 hours the next. I almost exclusively hit irons, so it is seeing contact every strike.

I have about 7000 shots on mine, no wear so far.  All irons and wedges.

Do you have the whole mat or just the strip?

I ended up buying the Bulleye hitting strips - both the 3D and the soft. I need one of them for backyard chipping so I figured I'd get both and use the more grabby one for shorter shots.

That looks indentical to the Wittek Quattro mat. I wonder if they source it from the same factory or if they are reselling this from alibaba? I know some people on the golf sim form bought this stuff, cut it into strips, and love it.

 

Please let me know how you like it? I have been thinking of trying this or the Wittek. It's the one mat I am curious to try which I have not. Love the one I have, but sims are addicting and there is always something better just around the corner...

Both the 3D and Soft arrived. I hit about 20 shots on each. For reference, I'm a scratch and take a light "divot" when using a mat. 

 

I think both feel similar. The Soft might be slightly more grabby but I'm not sure I could tell them apart without looking at them. 

 

I feel like the 3D is a higher build quality. The Soft is shedding a few bristles right out of the package. 

 

Both are MILES better than the Fiberbuilt Flight Deck though, but will see if they hold up as well.
