Do Sun Mountain bags sit well on a Clicgear?

I'm looking for a large-ish stand bag that also goes nicely on a Clicgear buggy.

The sun mountain 4.5 looks good, but i've always been worried about bags like this with the kick stand mechanism not inside the base.

I gather they have straps that can hold the legs in and stop them extending, but does the bag sit with the base on the buggy, or is it balancing on the smaller lever that activates the leg?

 

Does anyone regularly push one of these bags that can give me some info?

They don’t, unless you get the Cozy attachment that Clicgear sells on the website.  Sun Mt stand bags have the external pedal mechanism for extending the stand legs, and that mechanism is problematic on push carts, including Clicgear.

Yup.  Love my Sun Mountain bags, but I moved away from them simply because their stand mechanism simply just doesn't work well with push carts.

It's not that external foot mechanisms (the only kind I will buy) don't work on push carts at all. It's that they don't work on some popular push carts. Every Speed Cart I've owned works fine with external foot bags. 

 

You can look at the bottom plate and bracket on a push cart and tell whether it has room for an external foot or not.

 

What's a mystery to me is why every push cart doesn't have the simple little cutout in the bottom plate so it will work with external-foot bags. It isn't like there's any downside to have a 2" wide slot cut in the edge of that plate.

Agreed, but the OP asked specifically about the Clicgear.  And the Speed Cart is the only one I know of that DOES have that cutout.  Given that, plus the popularity of push carts, I think the other mystery is why stand bags don’t all integrate the stand mechanism into the bottom of the bag like Titleist and Ping do.

 

With added attachments, I could make my Sun Mt C130S work on my Clicgear, but when I got an electric cart, it was a different story, and that bag is now in the attic.  Sun Mt makes GREAT bags; functional, durable, and good looking; I still use a SM 2.5 as a carry bag.  But the “Why?” of that stand mechanism is a real puzzler to me.  I’ve never seen an upside, and the downside of the pushcart issues is just hard to get around.

I understand what you’re saying, but I’ve never had that problem with my Ping or Titleist stand bags.  And the OP may be like me; he wants a stand bag for the range and the parking lot, rather than to carry on the golf course.

Well one thing for sure, he will have no problem at all finding bags with the tilting floor if he wants one. That's gotta be 99% of the bags on the market nowadays.

I had a (2015ish) ping pioneer

great bag but a zip broke.

good excuse for a new bag.

So I bought the 4.5. Loved the idea of a stand bag for the range that I could put on my clicgear when I played

great looking bag. High quality. Terrible on my clicgear sits awkwardly and kept twisting. Awful match. Also too heavy to carry for me for playing.

Put it in the shed and got a new ping pioneer. It isn’t as good as previous pioneer, they made the cooler pocket too short.

should have saved myself $600 and kept my old broken zip bag. Sure has made no difference to my score.

I've had a 4.5 for 2 years and just bought a C-130S for this year.  I've used them with my Clicgear without a problem.  The best accessory I purchased was the stand bag cozy for the cart.  It keeps the bags from twisting by securing the legs in place.  For me it's an absolute requirement to have that in place for those bags but they work great!

Best way to find out is go to a local golf shop and try out that Sun Mountain bag on the specific Clic-Gear model you have.

Yep the club tangle I have from my hoofer is annoying the hell out of me, and it's ruining my leather grips so I was looking for a 14 way full length divider stand bag.

 

I can handle a little bit of twisting and could get the cosy attachment, just wouldn't want to break the pedal by having the whole weight of the bag on it.

The C130s will work fine on a Clicgear if you have the bag cozy.  There is another attachment that Clicgear seems that snaps onto the base of the cart where the bottom of the bag sits that would also help a bit.  You’ll do no damage to the stand mechanism by using it on a Clicgear.
