Transition help?

Hey folks, could use some other eyes here. Been working on a better back swing this spring and summer, and while I feel that I’m a better position at the top, things still get weird in transition. Desired flight is a draw. Curious what you see and how you’d go about fixing the steep action. Also: those pads are squishier than they look. No worries on the garage set up.

You have very little hand depth. Only about 3 ways to hit a draw from that position…mega shallow the clubhead, have the hands drop behind you in transition, or have a bunch of lower body slide.

I think it's plenty, plus, the camera view makes it look less "deep" than it is.

Camera angle is most of the issue.  Maybe some early pronation or earlier ulnar deviation would help

Yes that’s something I didn’t pay close enough attention to.

Ball position is too far back.

 

Too much lateral shift in the backswing and too late getting to lead side. 

 

Hip stall in downswing. Everything stops and the hands and arms just flip through. 

 

While it appears your hips don't get massively closer to the ball, your torso gets taller in the downswing.

 

So, less lateral move off the ball OR press hard into your lead foot once the lead arm gets to parallel in the backswing. Then stay in side bend as you fire from there.

A little too much lateral movement at your head in the latter part of your backswing .

Compare the changes in your left knee from the top to the end of transition( lead arm parallel) with Rorys

There is very little difference in your left knee , while Rorys has moved so that it over his left foot. 
Rorys transition is characterized by left hip external rotation , which rotates the thigh bone causing the left knee to rotate .

Your transition is dominated by sliding your pelvis laterally. 
To improve your left hip external rotation 

1. flare your left  foot 1/4 turn towards the target . This will facilitate more external hip rotation

2. practice with a rod that extends vertically just to the outside of the middle of left foot . The idea is to touch this rod with outside of your left knee during transition

You can create more force swinging the club in a circular motion around you instead of a linear motion in front of you. 

 

You're swaying because you're trying to make the club conform to the static address plane. 

 

 

You're in recovery mode from the get go to get the club back on the ball with any speed.

I would be interested to see this dtl swing from a little better angle. There are some things I see, and because of them there is a bit of an inclination issue.

You and the club are out of sync. As a drill get the shaft on your right forearm and make several easy practice swings back and through.

 

Don't swing past the point where both arms are straight a couple feet past and above where the ball would be. 

 

 

That will give you a feel for swinging the club on plane and your right side closing like a door.
