Looking for help with the driver/

Chauzzer

Recommended Posts

I am stuck in a rut with my driver currently. Really struggling to make consistent contact on the tee, and I’ve been topping/hitting grounders most times I break the club out on the course. I am able to hit my irons decently well. I am sure there are more than a few issues in my swing that could be causing the issues, but curious if anything stands out to anyone as glaring. Really trying to get back to a workable place where I can get off the tee with some consistency.

Really appreciate the time and the help. I’ve included a few DTL and face-on clips below.

The main thing I see is your right arm is stuck way behind you. You do it with irons, too.

My amateur guess is that earlier vertical wrist hinge will help getting your arms working more up vs. across your chest.

What Sean said… you’re over-turning both hips and shoulders plus have arm overrun, probably secondary to your very late wrist set.  It may feel more powerful to swing that far, but watching your swing at full speed it looks like a power leak for you, and can cause the inconsistent contact you report.

Earlier wrist set and feeling like the right elbow flexes only a bit might be a couple things to try.

Arms too around and too far from the ball. And almost too much hip turn or the hips and shoulders turn too flat.

I agree with everything written so far.

I'd also say that your backswing is too slow, which allows you to make it way too long, which then gives you no leverage to hit the ball with authority.

I think if you speed up your backswing a lot with the idea of getting left before you get to the top of your swing, you will hinge your wrists sooner, shorten your backswing, and put a more efficient strike on the ball.

Any recommended feels here to work on? Will a preset drill accomplish that? I've had trouble making it click in the past.

9-3 drill (left arm parallel in backswing, right arm parallel or a little past in follow-through) with a full wrist set (club close to 90° to left arm) and what feels like a straight right elbow (it will bend some). Once that’s solid you can gradually lengthen it with more shoulder turn (but keeping arm structure / width).

https://forums.golfwrx.com/topic/868322-get-your-arm-swing-and-pivot-in-sync/ would be a great thread to read.

I see this a lot.

I came up with the “no turn” feel to combat this.

In your mind, feel like you don’t turn at all and your entire backswing is just hinging your wrists and you’ll end up with a full backswing.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
