Blended iron sets

I think it's 100% worth it and getting used to it is shockingly easy. 

 

Fact is, we don't ask the same things of our 4-6 that we do from our 8-P. 

 

When I pull out a 9-iron I don't need forgiveness, I need accuracy and control. Likewise, when I pull out a 5-iron on a long par-3 I need the club to produce the highest, straightest shot possible because at that range, holding the green and hitting the green (aim) are really my only goals.

Agree. Also T100 p-5 and a t200 utility build is a top notch set-up!

The biggest challenge most of us have with making decisions on blended sets is lack of access to test. 
 

Love the recent vid on this site with the Tursky Titleist fit. It’s one thing to fit a 7i but he had access to keep going down and hit 5i and 4i until he knew where to blend with data and not just hunch. 
 

I know it’s hard to do and more expensive but would love to see the high end fitting partners like a Club Champion, Cool Clubs and independent shops start getting 1/2 sets for fitting. I want to see the PW, 7i and the 5i to truly know what I need and not just the 7i.

Mizz JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro for 5, 6, 7 (but the lofts are the equivalent of 4, 5, 6) and

Srixon z745 for 7, 8, 9, P

 

I had the JPX HMP 7 iron strengthened to 28 (from 29), so I could swap out my z745 6 at the same loft. Can't say if I can tell if the 1 deg bounce that I lost really matters to me.

 

Most of us know this, but some of us don't... doesn't matter what the number on the bottom of the club says. The JPX HMP 5 iron isn't really "hot". It's a 22 deg iron which usually is a 4. I'm going to guess that back in the old days that 22 deg iron was a 3. Thank you, "Marketing" team.
